Reloading question using Leverevolution powder

Hi all. I am fairly new to reloading. I developed a load for my 6mm ARC bolt gun using Berger 95gr Classis Hunters and Leverevolution powder. From research, it seems Lever has a good bit of temperature sensitivity.

I ladder tested my loads and got great accuracy with 30 grains of lever, so i stopped there. I got good accuracy at 29.5 grains.

My question is: Colorado can have some pretty wide temp swings during the early rifle seasons. At 30 grains the only pressure sign was flattened primers. Bolt lift was normal feeling, not rough at all. Do you think 1/2 grain, or 29.5 grains will be backed off enough for Lever not to spike in this situation? I will shoot some loads as the temps warm up, but just curious of real world experiences with Lever

I have only used it in 30-30 and 6.5 Grendel. I know it worked, but wouldn't worry too much about temp swing for a bolt gun. As long as you aren't right up there at max, you will be fine. Wait until weather comes around that you will be hunting in and test it out...

Thanks for the reply!

I use it to fireform some of my Ackley brass and speed up barrels. Seems like when I hit pressure, it happens quicker than a more stable powder. Just proceed with caution and do your own tests in varying temps like you have mentioned.

I use Leverevolution in my model 94, and I developed a load for it in 25-30 degree weather.
I sighted in for hunting season in 78-80 degree weather and didn’t see much if any change.
Been using that load for 4 years now with no issues.

what temperature did you do the load development at?

What OAL length are the cartridges? How long are those bullets? What OAL puts your bullets touching the lands with that bullet?

How different is the maximum temperature Youll hunt at versus the minimum temperature Youll hunt at?

What’s your effective range with the rifle?

I developed the loads in about 70 degree indoor temp. The shooting range was an indoor 100 yards, and I assume the temp was also around 70 degrees.

The COL is 2.197" if memory serves me right. The bullets are seated .020" off the lands.

The temps I could experience hunting could be between 40 to 85 degrees.

Max range would be about 300 yards.

Temperature swings will affect muzzle velocity with temp sensitive powders but will not make a handload unsafe if the handload is safe to begin with. If your running at max pressure or at or above max velocity Id back off even more than .5gn charge weight.

I find smaller cartridges with their faster burning powders to develop pressure signs much quicker with even less than .5gn ladder differences. When i work up a load with smaller cases I usually go in .2gn increments as I approach max charge weights. I use HLVR in 2 cartridges.

I think you’re not going to notice any appreciable differences in terms of signs of pressure, or change in point of impact at 300 and in.

Unless you’re shooting mice or something.

I can't speak to the high end of temp sensitivity.

I developed my 223/73ELDM load around 40 degrees in January. A month later shooting it at -15, I lost 100 fps.
I shot it the other day at about 70 degrees and the dope was spot on so velocity must have been real close.
