I have a 4 person moose float hunt this fall. We’re hiking 20 miles in to the unit and floating out, so every pound counts. We’re trying to get in one shelter. Will a Redcliff sleep 4 with no/minimal gear inside? We’re trying to keep our options open for running my large U-Turn. Our gear will be under meat tarps and turned over rafts. Thanks.

I don’t see how it wouldn’t, but there are a couple things to keep in mind. AK is famous for several days of crap weather leaving you socked in, so you might at least want a tarp for a place to spread out a bit.

I’d also make sure everybody is good friends and has been in at least some sort of stressful situation together. Could be a long trip in one tent with 2 guys pissed off at each other.

A lot would depend on your sleeping arrangements. If you are planning on taking ultralight cots, it will be a really, really tight fit. Especially with the stove and a wood pile. We usually do three in the Redcliff with the stove. But we all like having a little more space than not enough, especially when in Alaska and having to deal with some tent days.

Fitting 4 and a stove is really going to tight . Weather and friendship will have to cooperate .

Im sure anything is possible, but per SO specs they state "3 with stove". If every ounce truly counts I wouldn't be bringing a stove. Maybe look at a 8 man tipi if a stove is mandatory.

Thanks for the feedback. I want the stove because of the float hunt, we can bring a pound or two per person in extra clothes in case someone goes in the drink, or a stove to dry out at night. With the spare tarp I’m bringing for meat, I figure we can store gear and packs under that, not to mention overturned rafts.

I honestly would look at something different I’ve had mine for a while with an SXL stove and two guys and the stove is what I prefer but have done three before and its pretty tight with stove and a couple nights of wood. I think an 8 man tipi would be best or two smaller shelters like two red cliffs

I did 4 in a BCS grande ( similar foot print as redcliff) 2 on one side were a couple and the other was my buddy, we slept heads to the pole with packs in between us, the couple slept on the stove side perpendicular to us.

Most of the gear was outside. It was just a backpack trip no hunt gear and the stove only came because I had just bought it and wanted to try it.

Now Hunting when we got stuck in a snow storm and I was very glad it was just me and a buddy. It really just depends on how much "tent time" the weather throws at you
