I am wanting to start shooting and potentially hunt with my grandpa’s old recurve, we got it out, strung it up and shot it a couple times and the string keeps popping off… my grandpa thinks the limbs might be bent but we aren’t sure. Wondering if there’s anyone out there with much experience with these who might be able to help or if it’s even possible to repair one of these bows if it is indeed bent limbs. Any help or advice much appreciated!

Being a recurve someone probably wasn’t careful stringing it and twisted a limb. Growing up I saw people, my dad included, just step through to string his up and that’s a pretty easy way to twist that limb.
What’s the bow?

From an old post where i explain limb bumping:

If its twisted it can be straightened most of the time. What make, model, specs are we talking about. Strung pics looking down the string would help>

Thanks everyone for the input! Here are some photos of the bow i just had my grandfather send me. I can have him take some more if theres a specific angle or photo that would be helpful.
All this being said, little bit of a long shot but is there anyone who works on these or would be able to maybe help with it who is in or anywhere remotely near Wyoming?

Am I seeing things correctly that the bow is strung in reverse in those photos. That can definitely introduce unwanted torque into the limbs...if that was the storage method for any extended amount of time I wouldn't even try to shoot it tbh

That bow is strung backwards! You want to string it a recurve like this. That explains why the string keeps popping off. Hopefully it wasn’t stored like that for long and you avoided any warping or damage. Give this a try. Do you have a bow stringer?IMG_1277.jpeg
