Real cold weather boots

So I am wondering about some real cold weather boots. There was a pair of Schnee pacs for sale here a couple of months ago and I thought long and hard about buying them, but didn't.

I am planning to get some real cold weather boots that would be dry too. In temps well below zero. Thinking a pac style boot is the way to go but looking for input. I am looking at a budget of $200 to maybe $300. Not opposed to a used boot either. Generally wear a 10 but with heavier socks may need to step that up a size or so. Looking for some thoughts. Thank you.

For walking or stationary activities?

Those stupid Mickey Mouse boots, I've had them on down to -40 at a survival school and danged if they didn't work. You just gotta keep your feet dried out in them because they don't breathe. But that was just a survival school...not a long hike with a load. I can't speak to how they'd work under that use.

Not hard to walk in at all. Just have to prepare your legs by using ankle wts.

I use whites PAC boots. They rock. I use them for the atv when it's super cold and ice fishing

Pac boots (I had Browning, but most are similar), and buy an extra pair of liners to change out. If the liner gets wet (from perspiration), they will make your feet cold no matter how much insulation the boot liner provides. A Peet boot dryer will help drying out the damp liner while you are wearing the other one.

Cabela's Saskatchewan pac boots are my pick for really cold weather boots. The Saskatchewan boots are easy on and off, fairly light weight and easy to walk in and have scent lock. I use them for stationary whitetail deer hunting in Alberta in non-heated blinds. They work great, but I have found that sitting all day can be a challenge at about noon. In really cold weather if sitting all day I would add ThermaCell Pro heated insoles with Bluetooth to your boots. Used them this year for the first time and they worked great once their app was updated. I can wear the insoles with the heat off while walking or sitting until about noon. I noon I turn them on using my smart phone and at the low setting they have lasted the rest of the day and still show fully charged. I do carry extra batteries just in case. Follow up with the Peet boot dryers as suggested by Laelkhunter. Good luck

for really cold weather and the ability to walk some decent distances, Schnee's Extreme's would be really tough to beat- full removable thinsulate/wool liner and additional 600 gram Thinsulate in the bottom portion of the boot- of course fully rebuildable

I have to say that these are strictly really cold weather boots, read below 0- if it's above 0 and I'm moving, their Hunter is much better choice

If you really want an excellent really cold weather boot, you need to answer a question. Will you be around any water, or places where you could go in over your boot? If you will be around water, then the old Bata Military "Bunny Boot" is tough to beat. If you'll be in dry areas where water isn't an issue, the older Airforce Muklut type canvas overboot with a Baffin -40ºF liner is excellent. When I say cold, I mean cold too. I predator hunt down into the mid -40ºF temperatures and the only boot that has kept my feet warm while sitting is the Mukluk. I put a thick felt liner in them and then run a heavy weight wool sock. The liner can be removed if you're at a cabin and warmed up and dried out as well. So how cold are you talking here, because my idea of cold might be different than yours. Bunny boots work find if moving, but once you sit for any period of time, the rubber will eventually start to cold soak and your feet won't be able to overcome the cold rubber. If you're hiking or moving, it's fine though typically.

Baffin and be done. I have a buddy who is cold at 50 and he got a pair of the baffins and is never cold ice fishing. they are heavy but better for walking than bunny boots. I got a pair of the kenny pacs a few years back and they have never let my feet get cold.

I've used the military mukluck boots and have the mickey mouse boots which I really like for stationary hunting or fishing. If I am going to be moving at all in temps 10 degrees and below the Solomon Toundras are hard to beat. They are warm, light and have extremely good traction on ice and snow packed surfaces.
