So I finally found a day to continue load development for my 7mag along with my father in laws T-3 7 mag. All testing has been done at 300 yds of a bench using sand bags. This was the ladder I ran several months ago.
Since time is limited for loading and shooting I skipped the refined ladder from 71.5-72.3. I loaded 5 rounds at 71.5-71.7-72.0. CCI mag primers , H1000, and at clip length . These are the results.
71.5
71.7 and I added a few clicks to my scope to shoot above the L. I believe the one round that went to the left was a combination of me and a gust of wind.
This was 72.0.
In the attempt to keep my barrel at a reasonable operating temp I was switching to my FIL's gun every 2-3 shots. I shot a ladder with his using H1000 and the 168's.
I think I will explore the 70.0-70.5 range with some 5 shot groups the next time we get some range time. This should keep the recoil a little more to his liking and he will never shoot past 4-500 yds. I also shot a ladder out of his rifle using H4350 and 120 barnes tts's. I seeted these the same as the 168 bergers and will explore that down the road if necessary. This will be his PA whitetail load. If I can get 1" groups at 100 yds with these without changing my die I will be thrilled.
