Ran load tests of the 35gr vmax & 30gr varmit grenades in my 20" ruger this afternoon. 35's hit 3800 fps, 30's got 3900. 5 of each loaded, 4 into paper, 5th and hottest into cream of corn @ 50 yds. Next up, a coon or fox.

Here is the barnes vs the corn

What twist is the barrel? I've been looking at trying some lightweight bullets but I was worried about blowing them up.

Yowza! That's impressive for a 20" barrel. I've been curious to try them in my 22-250 and see if I can set a land speed record... :D

I couldn't get any accuracy out of the 35gr Vmax from a 7" twist 223.
However they shoot really well and I have killed a bunch of raccoons, skunks and possums with an older and I assume slower twist 223. They are very explosive even at pedestrian speeds.

35 gr Vmax hit 4260 out of my old 22-250 running CFE223.

Only loaded three thinking they might evaporate. They made it to the target and shot good enough that I may need to load up a batch.

A bit of an older post, but maybe it can make a come back.

I run the 35gr vmax in a bolt 223 with a full case ( not compressed ) of trail boss.

Gives me 22 hornet performance with much better brass and frankly a better rifle than a common 22 hornet. One rifle is a 9 twist bergara and the other an older pencil barrel ruger 77 mkII that is a 12 twist.

I have run them hard with other powders and they have been good there as well, but the hornet type load is by far my favorite use for them.
