I just bought a rab electron jacket. Not the electron pro, but the older plain electron. I thought I'd post some info here about it since you can find it for $145-$165 and it is $325 new.

First off, the only difference I know of between the pro and this one is the pro uses a slightly different pertex shell. This one has the pertex endurance, that is supposed to have a very good DWR coating. The pro also weighs something like 1.5 oz more than mine.

My jacket is a small. It has 190g, or 6.7oz, of 800 fill nikwax treated down. The jacket weighs 16.2oz on my scale. Not bad at all for a 20D pertex shell and 6.7oz of down in a jacket that has a few nice features!!

I am 5'10, 155lbs, 31" waist, 33" sleeve. This small fits me perfectly being just small enough I can probably get it under most of my athletic cut rain jackets but big enough that the sleeves are perfect length and there's no constriction in movement. As you can see in the picture from the side, the tail of the jacket is slightly longer, so it should still provide coverage when sitting hunched over. The hood fit is slightly large because it's supposed to fit over a climbing helmet, but it has adjustment cords on the front and with a stocking cap or other on underneath, the hood will be just right.

The quality is impressive. Every stitch looks fantastic, and there is zero defects on the jacket. The 20d pertex feels like it will be plenty burly and last quite awhile without rips, so long as I don't take it through some nasty briars.

It is excruciatingly warm to wear inside my house. I'm looking forward to trying it out hunting!

For the features, the hood has a Velcro tie down you can see in the picture to keep it out of the way when not in use. I probably won't use it much. The side pockets are plenty large with insulation in front, so you'll be able to warm your hands there and access the pockets with a pack on. There is an internal breast pocket. There is a cinch cord for the bottom of the jacket and the opening of the hood. The sleeve cuffs are a stretchy and incredibly comfy feeling material. Plenty stretchy to slip heavy gloves through.

It packs into its stuff sack very small, only slightly fatter than a nalgene.

Overall, I think this is a superb jacket for $165.

I'll have to update this after wearing it hunting as the weather cools down.

Rab down jackets are some of the best in my opinion. I have ran the Neutrino for 5 years and it is awesome. Has saved my ass on a windy mountainside on numerous occasions. I do not leave home without it. Love the hood and the pertex coating is unbelievable. Have had it some serious dumps with no wet out issues.

I just found a good deal on an Electron Pro for me and an Electron (non-Pro) for my wife (I also have an Electron that is a size too large for me that my wife uses when pregnant or I/she uses when carrying a baby in a front pack). This is the time to start looking for one. I have yet to pay full price for a Down jacket, and I have more than I care to admit. I just buy last seasons over the summer. Most have been half off.

The Electron on its own is about as warm as my Rab Microlight Alpine worn over a Kuiu Peloton 240.

The differences between the Electron and the Electron Pro are pretty minimal. I took some pictures. The Electron is blue and yellow while the Electron Pro is green and orange.

The cuffs are different, but no real change in function.

The waste pull tabs are a little different, but still no real change in function.

The hood pull tabs are different. Minor change in function. On the Pro the ends go inside the jacket (so you have to unzip slightly to tighten) and on the non-Pro version they are outside. The Pro is a little cleaner as a result. The tension lock is also built internal to the jacket body (the red button on the Pro, the gray tension lock above the collar of the non-Pro).

The non-Pro had a little Velcro tab near the hanging loop that let you fasten the hood in the rolled up position behind your head (I never used it). The Pro omits this.

The Pro has more soft touch fabric at the front of the collar.
