I just bought a rab electron jacket. Not the electron pro, but the older plain electron. I thought I'd post some info here about it since you can find it for $145-$165 and it is $325 new.
First off, the only difference I know of between the pro and this one is the pro uses a slightly different pertex shell. This one has the pertex endurance, that is supposed to have a very good DWR coating. The pro also weighs something like 1.5 oz more than mine.
My jacket is a small. It has 190g, or 6.7oz, of 800 fill nikwax treated down. The jacket weighs 16.2oz on my scale. Not bad at all for a 20D pertex shell and 6.7oz of down in a jacket that has a few nice features!!
I am 5'10, 155lbs, 31" waist, 33" sleeve. This small fits me perfectly being just small enough I can probably get it under most of my athletic cut rain jackets but big enough that the sleeves are perfect length and there's no constriction in movement. As you can see in the picture from the side, the tail of the jacket is slightly longer, so it should still provide coverage when sitting hunched over. The hood fit is slightly large because it's supposed to fit over a climbing helmet, but it has adjustment cords on the front and with a stocking cap or other on underneath, the hood will be just right.
The quality is impressive. Every stitch looks fantastic, and there is zero defects on the jacket. The 20d pertex feels like it will be plenty burly and last quite awhile without rips, so long as I don't take it through some nasty briars.
It is excruciatingly warm to wear inside my house. I'm looking forward to trying it out hunting!
For the features, the hood has a Velcro tie down you can see in the picture to keep it out of the way when not in use. I probably won't use it much. The side pockets are plenty large with insulation in front, so you'll be able to warm your hands there and access the pockets with a pack on. There is an internal breast pocket. There is a cinch cord for the bottom of the jacket and the opening of the hood. The sleeve cuffs are a stretchy and incredibly comfy feeling material. Plenty stretchy to slip heavy gloves through.
It packs into its stuff sack very small, only slightly fatter than a nalgene.
Overall, I think this is a superb jacket for $165.
I'll have to update this after wearing it hunting as the weather cools down.
