In the next couple of years my family may have an opportunity to move to the SLC area. I have started doing research on the internet but wanted to see if anyone here that lives in the area and has experience with SLC can tell me the good areas of town or suburbs and the ones to avoid. I read some good things about Kaysville and Centerville, UT but wanted to get any info from the good people on this site.

Davis and Utah counties tend to more conservative places. Commuting can be time consuming depending what your use to.

I live about 45 miles North of downtown SLC. For me I would choose a rural area in Northern Davis County-Southern Weber County. This would give you and hour or less commute into downtown SLC. There is also Alpine-Lehi area to the South. Be forewarned that there is a Cabelas in Lehi. There is also Tooele out West of SLC. PM me if you want to talk specifics via phone.

I'm also in Northern Utah. I've got relatives in Centerville and its a pretty well established place, right up against the mountains but also right off the I-15 freeway. So a commute into SLC proper is pretty easy, maybe 15 minutes? But rush hour could be quite a bit more time. But there are several good neighborhoods there. Kaysville, just a little north of there probably has a more diverse variety of neighborhood quality, but definitely has some good ones. Also there's quite a bit of growth and development going on there so there are lots of new, clean developments popping up. I also have relatives in Farmington, between Centerville and Kaysville. Lots of nice new developments going up there too. Talked with those relatives just yesterday about this sort of thing. Home values/building prices are going up to the tune of 4 years ago built a house for 270k, valued now at 310k. Hope this is helpful.

Guys thanks for the information. All this info definetly gives me a good starting place.

Stay away from west valley city and ogden......

Yes stay away from West Valley, the Ogden area isn't bad. I live just West of Ogden and there are lots of great places in the vicinity. We have a group of us that go hiking several times a week in the mornings before work, lots of great trails to bike or hike, none of the busy-ness of Davis, Salt Lake or Utah Counties. I like my smaller towns and I still have great access to anything outdoors. Centerville and Bountiful or Farmington are great areas, Tooele is a great place too.

Around ogden isnt too bad but downtown ogden sucks. got shot at there... haha

Yeah I usually pack when I go downtown but for the most part I avoid it. Sorry to hijack the thread. Lots of good places to live around SLC.
