Headed for a trip to the Dominican at the end of March and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for charters or even gear to bring if surf fishing would be worth while. Billfish aren't top of my list but dorado, and inshore species like permit, snapper, grouper and tarpon etc interest me.

We went back in August. I took some light spinning gear thinking I
could fish off the beach early/late.
The beach was absolutely thick with seaweed,,,,to the point that
fishing was impossible, and they(resort) had a rope line floating
with buoys about 50 ft. out which would have also caused a problem.
I would highly recommend hiring a charter if I was planning on fishing
down there. And do your due diligence, lots of jack legs running around in poorly outfitted pangas with no gear whatsoever. Agree on a price first.
Your prolly going at a good time. I do not recommend the DR in August.
The heat/humidity was miserable, esp. at night when the wind quit blowing.
Watch your a**, they've been having some civil unrest lately.
