Everyone, I just wanted to mention something I discovered while wearing a puffy jacket on our last hunt. Never had a problem before, but had an incident while wearing a puffy jacket that I want to mention:
We were hunting in cold conditions. so while glassing I put the puffy jacket on. later we were going to move to a new spot, so I put my eberlestock dragonfly pack on, and then grabbed my wife's 270 to carry over my shoulder. For travel, I run the chest strap through the sling so it cant fall off, and keeps everything in place. When we got the next spot, I undid that chest strap, and didn't have a good enough hold of it. It slipped out of my hands, and when that happened, the weight of the gun caused it to slip off my shoulder and fall. Of course, anyone who is familiar with murphy's laws knows, her gun smacked right down on a rock hitting the side of the scope and the fore stock. We do NOT carry our guns with a round in the chamber, so there was no concern of a loaded gun going off!
I am not posting this to complain about the puffy...on the contrary, we love them things! But they do have a slippery outer shell. Take note of what happened to us, and look closely at your sling material to ensure they will work well together. Ours didn't! The scope glass didn't break, so I will just have to go out to the range and see if our "zero" is still set.
Also, this story is an example of what can go wrong...just might! Be careful out there or MURPHY can and WILL get ya at some point.
