"puffy" pant recommendations

I experienced the benefits of a puffy jacket last season and would love to add some puffy style pants to my stable of gear. I'd like to have them in camo of some sort in case I use them as an outer layer during long sits in the treestand for whitetail. Does anyone have recommendations on pants that would fit the bill?

Not camo but Patagonia MicroPuff are usually on ebay at $80 in drab green. I love mine.

Patagonia had the original military contract and those were what I'd call olive drab. The later contract was for the APCU contract and were foliage. They were called APCU Level VII. Here is one vendor I googled:

One thing I failed to mention is that I'd love to have pants that are easy to put on / take off - maybe something with long zippers on the sides. This certainly isn't a requirement but would make it easier to put the gear on while perched 20 feet up a tree.

Durability is another factor, although a bit lower on the list. I really like the First Lite Uncompahgre puffy because of its warmth and durability. I was really hoping FL would come out with pants in the same vein for this year, but that wasn't in the cards.

Do you have any experience with either of these products and, if so, what conditions were they used in and what were the results? My buddy has a pair of the Kelvin pants but I don't think Sitka makes them anymore. Are the Kelvin Lite pants a good alternative?

I have been keeping an eye out for a pair of Mountain Hardwear Compressor pants. I guess they are discontinued but they have full side zips, reinforced knees and seat, synthetic so you can sit in the wet, etc.

Goose feet gear made me a pair, can have side zippers if you want and stuffed with about as much down as you want. Not very cheap but real nice

Luke turned me on to these and I love them.. They are a little heavy though

I'm not a Kuiu fan at all but I think they make the lightest, though fragile.. If I was looking for one to pack and only wear when glassing they may be a good choice though I have never used them

I was looking at the pants that Take-a-knee posted as well as another guy in the gear deals forum. While trying to confirm that they did have full side zips I found a pair on ebay. Hard to pass up for $29 so I bit.

I have the pants and jacket, very warm. The pants I have weigh 2 pounds on my scale,, just an FYI

Thanks Stid. Usually I'm pretty warm in the legs so these will be more for a base camp type application as opposed to something to hike in. Mostly I was thinking about my upcoming bison hunt in Wyoming which will be in late November or December.

If compressibility isn't an issue the us army puffy pants are great and cheap. I have had the Sitka kelvin and now the Feathered Friends version. The down pants are lighter and warmer but the Sitka cut was better.

I've used the Kelvin a lot. Down to some very cold conditions on a November Deer hunt, like 10-15 degrees cold. I've also used them lots of time in cold conditions and in snow coyote hunting. They are pretty warm if you ask me.

I haven't got a chance to try the Kelvin Lite yet, but I will be picking a pair up in the next week or so, however, they probably won't see much use until Sept/Oct. I have used a Kelvin Lite jacket a couple times, never anything below 20-25 degrees and always when I had a soft shell to use with it, but it's always been warm enough for my needs, I'd expect the pants will be close.

Thanks for the feedback on the Kelvin pants. I wasn't able to find them on the Sitka website either - only the Kelvin Lite. I will probably pick up a pair to try out as they provide some concealment.

I also ordered a pair of the ACPU Level VII pants to try out. If they don't work out for hunting purposes, I can always use them for other outdoor applications. And the price is right on them.

Not camo....but Outdoor Research Neoplume pants are great. They can be completely unzipped on each side....which allows you to put them on under your outer pants without removing them completely. Drop your outer pants down to your ankles....put on the neoplumes....pull your outer pants back up.
