Hoping that the experts here can help me out with a novice scope mounting question. I just purchased my first bolt action rifle, a 1960 Winchester Model 70 FW in 30-06. Pics of the d&t receiver:

I found a good deal on a low magnification leupold scope with rings, which I intend to mount on the rifle:

I'd like to know what hardware/bases I need to purchase to properly (best) mount the scope and rings to my rifle. My thought was to use Weaver bases like set #2 advertised here.

I know that things like this are always more complicated than they seem, so I was hoping for any advice you that you all could provide. Thanks in advance for your help!

Not sure where you are going with this project. If you want to use this scope with the rings in the picture yes the Weaver you showed will work. What height are the rings ? Are they high or low enough for you and that rifle ? Those rings are designed for cross slot bases or a pic rail attachment. Other base options would be Weaver grand slam steel bases or Burris two piece rail type bases. Any pic rail option would also work but they cost 2x more. Hope this helps.

friend,
I mostly hunt with prewar model 70s and I use either Leupold duel dovetails or a Leupold one piece base. Never had a problem. Don’t worry someone dinging on your choice of riflescope because of the finish;they don’t own it or shoot it. If you like it, then go ahead on er

I use nothing weaver or weaver style. Especially the cheap aluminum weaver bases

Late to the party here and I’m sure you figured out a system by now, sco80, but Talley make a lightweight one piece ring/base that will fit the pre64’ receiver and mount that scope no problem, go with the “low” rings if you go that route. Cheers

The prewar models weren't drilled on the rear bridge and have a bolt handle and safety that aren't typically kind to scope mounting. Gotta love 'em!!!!
