Time for a new grill. The Brinkman 5 burner stainless lasted about 10 years and gave up the ghost.

The current one is 8 years old, Chargriller 3001 3 burner is about dead and lasted 8. I was real happy with the fact the Chargriller seared awesome, got hot fast and was reasonably easy to grill on. It was a bit on the cheaper side and it shows in build/ construction. I was going to buy a new one, it is not worth rebuilding, but price has almost doubled. I'd prefer to get more for my money at double the price.

It'll sit outside, with a cover, be used nearly weekly, more in the summer. I want a side burner, i do occasionally use them. I like the idea of a searing station. Minimum 3 burner, 425 sq. inches of main cooking area. Needs to be capable of a good sear.

No current interest in a pellet grill, just prefer the propane option, especially during power outages which we experience several times a year. They don't last long but are typically inconvenient.

Budget, ugh! Several of the Webers look nice, but at $800 - $1k, I'm not sure the value is there. Value vs performance is important.

Preference is to stick around $500, but I could be convinced to increase if the value is truly there.

Any recommendations for those who have recently, in the last few years, made a similar purchase?

3 burner Weber for me. It's just enough room for most dinners and parties. And the stainless parts are holding up well in my experience. My dad's is twenty years old and we've only replaced the internal parts once. A good cover is necessary, but even the best covers only last two years in the sun.

Btw, I agree with you on needing propane. 90% of our use is quick family dinners. I'm not interested in waiting on anything to heat up. Then again, we also have a smoker for the weekend.

Two years ago I replaced my 17 year old Weber Genesis. Actually I still have it, and it still works, but the grates need replacing. But Costco had a single leftover in the box of their $900 five burner plus side burner stainless grill on sale for $300. So I bought it. Ya, it's made in China......but it's a grill......it's five burners and a grate with a lid. I wouldn't pay $900 for it, but I've seen some Weber's this size for $2500+. For $300 it was a steal. Keep your eyes open. The best time to buy a grill is at the end of summer or during the fall.

For grilling in the wild at truck camp, I like the Weber Q 1000 that I also got on clearance.

Follow up. After looking at a lot of models, I chanced upon a Weber Genesis SE-335 at a price I couldn't turn down. More than I wanted to spend, but it was the model of Weber where the options I was looking for, quality of product, and perceived value met. Hope to light it up this coming weekend.
