Picked one of these up from cameraland. Just curious what the screw on the side of the hub piece is for? and also the plastic disc with the strap?

I have the same tripod. I've used it in CO the last two years holding up to an 85MM spotter as well as family trips for photos, great tripod in my mind coming right at 2lbs even(does not count the ball head). the Screw on the side of the hub piece isn't necessary in my mind, but looks to be a secondary lock for the center column. The plastic disc with the strap would go on the center column, and is a wrist strap. I think photographers utilize this sometimes. I never put it on mine.

Thanks, I assumed the screw was a lock for the center column but was unsure why it was there with the twist lock too. It also turns easily and I’m afraid it will fall out if not tightened every time

I think the strap and disc is for one you unscrew one leg and use it as a mono pod. A mono pod does not stand up on its own so many use the wrist strap as a safety net.
