I’m considering getting a taperless contoured from Preferred. Does anyone have any feedback?

I have a .750 tikka prefit at 25”. I was skeptical of the weight at first but I’m very happy with mine. I don’t remember the exact weight but it’s very close to the tikka lite contour. Best wishes

I have a .75 on a Tikka. I haven't a clue if it saves weight, but it shoots forward, which is very important.

Have Bryce weigh some up to see if they are what you are looking for.

I’m looking at a 21” barrel. I’ve emailed Preferred and they said the .750 and lite contour are about the same at 2.7lbs and the .810 is 3lbs. I’m building a lightweight rifle - not an ultralight. Shooting for 8-8.5lbs. So either contour would work. I think carbon looks cool but would put the up charge towards a scope.

How’s the accuracy with the taperless?

Any regrets?

I ordered an .810 taperless in 6.5 creed. Hopefully it will be light enough to make the light hunter for nrl matches.

At 21” you should achieve your goal, mine shoots lights out. I kept the hunter wood stock, bedded it and went with a big sightron. I’m probably closer to 9 lbs with the 25” length barrel. Right now it balances very well but I’m looking at swapping the scope for a 2nd focal plane that’s in the 16-18 oz range. It should make a very good all around package.

I ordered a 21" .810 in 6.5 PRC last week. In as little as 9 weeks I can let you know exactly how much it weighs.

Tangentially related: I just ordered a 16” Lite contour in 6creed with a flare for 5/8” threading. They called and asked if they could do taperless (0.75) instead. They told me it would still fit in the Tikka stock, and that at that distance I’m talking a couple ounces difference. Said it would save me a $30 or $40 “custom contour fee”, be more rigid, and be easier on them to spin.

Then they told me they could probably do the lite contour with flare after all, but would have to talk about it. I told them to do whatever and let me know.

This was all last week and I haven’t heard back. I’ll reach out again today.

Edit: after talking further today with them, the 0.75 taperless will not fit in a factory Tikka stock without some minor modification. I’ve asked them so whatever contour is necessary to fit and be threaded 5/8. So we’ll see what they say

My 24" shouldered prefit (Origin Action) came in 55.4 oz in the #2 Sporter 3.5#. It is definitely stiff, but I wouldn't want to carry it into the mountains.

Has anyone successfully got another barrel company to use one of these taperless contours? I’d like to use a high end cut rifled barrel for my next build but really need the taperless .900 to fit my current stock and stay inside my weight requirements

I asked Swan Barrels in Australia to make a taperless .750" barrel and it turned out fantastic!

I ordered a McGowan in a .900 taperless. I’ll report back how it goes. I’m guessing they’ll do it without issue. I have a manners inletted for a carbonsix magnum that needs filled up.

i just had one show up yesterday: .750 taperless, 24in, 6.5mm bore. straight flutes.
43.25oz

Will be a few months until I can shoot it. But machining looks very clean, has rifling, so that' a good start!
So question was that a 43 oz finished like chambered all that or not i have a 27 cal on order considering flutes but want a idea on weight u know thanks
