What one would you pick, my dad is handing 1 down to me and I have the choice. He did hunt with the 30-30 and took a bear and a couple deer but never hunted woth the 32 special.

Both are in very good shape, the only thing I can find on either is both have a couple small spots of rust on the finger guards.

The 30-30 is a 1943-1947 model 94 and has a side mounted sears scope.

The 32 special is a 1951

Don't care so much about the value, just wanting to know which one you'd pick and why.

If I were you, I’d go 32 WS. I have my dad’s 32, and although I don’t use it often, it’s awesome.

Having something that doesn’t have a scope can be a great change and also a challenge occasionally.

The 30WCF would be my choice. Your dad’s was manufactured in early 1948 and appears to be a nice example of a Flat Band. Flat Band’s were only produced between 1946-1948, and only about 139,000 were produced. It’s unfortunate that it has the mounted scope, but it is what it is. It may have a bit more sentimental value to you than the other rifle, plus it’s much more rare then the 32.

I have not seen a scope mount off set to the right as the picture shows. If I were a righty, I’d want it off set to the left

32 ws

My grandfather farm had 40+ paying hunters dating to the 1960s thru the 80s.
For a long time dominant calibers were 35 rem, 32 ws and 3030 all levers in the Michigan timber. Most popular was the 32.

I helped starting in 1972 him processing the animals for the hunters. We didn’t have phones back then or note pads but given exposed lead cup and core available then over time it seemed the edge in wounds was 32 ws. I can’t at this time back that up.

Today the 3030 has more factory options with improved bullets. The 32 ws still see core lock and leverlution.

As soon as I had money my first was a 32 and have taken a lot of deer. Certainly 200 yard capability if you can do irons.

Be even better if it had the factory peep!

Just my bias
