Is there any great advantage to the trekking pole style frame over the original design? I have the original and thinking of upgrading.

I ”upgraded“ from a 28 (original frame) to a 38 on the new frame. I sold my 28 pretty fast afterward so recalling from memory more than any side by side trial.

Meh...only practical advantage I can discern is the ability to vary the height of the poles when extending them. Newer design goes from collapsed to full extension and anything in between, whereas the older was (1) up or (2) down. The newer desgin seems to feel a bit more confidence inspiring just in terms of looks, but I am not sure if that is actually true In terms of durability.

they made some tweaks and refinements to the belt and back pad as I recall.

Overall, I upgraded to get the extra bag capacity. The frame tweaks were bonus. If I had an older frame, I don’t think I would be rushing to upgrade, unless i were swapping to a different version of the bag As I did.

PS - black Ovis and a few others are running some 20-30% off deals now for pop ups and other MR packs, so shop around before buying the older version.

Thanks that's kinda what I thought. The only real problem I have with the pop-up is the belt and I changed to a kifaru belt so that's fixed.

Interesting. Never thought about swapping out the belt on mine. Did it take a lot of rigging?

All I did was add a velcro patch to the kifaru belt and slide it in . The pop up has a molle tail that needs to be cut down . , when you slide the belt out it will make sense, I will probably cut it off eventually but for now I just mollied it to the kifaru belt

the new design is all around a refinement, but nothing big in terms of function. i have the old style and got my wife the new style.... i like the new style better, but i certainly wouldn't get rid of mine to get the new style. the original design has greatly exceeded my expectations..... the new style can't be much better in terms of function.

i have hauled a bunch of loads that exceeded what that pack was designed for, and it's still in perfect shape
