I just bought my first hunting rifle, so I'm a complete greenhorn right now and I apologize if this is a dumb post. Up until now I've been archery only for big game and shotgun for bird hunting. (and range guns for fun)
I bought a Christensen Arms Mesa in .300WM, but I have no idea where to go optics wise. I've been reading previous posts, but it might as well be a foreign language to me.
So please give me recommendations for for glass in the $1,000-$1,500 range. I have no idea how to use the reticles so that's something to consider as well.

Again, sorry if this is dumb. I legitimately have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to this.

Take a look at the Zeiss V4 line. I believe that should fit your needs assuming mid range shots with your 300 WM.

I think that is 100% user preference. As far as simplicity is is hard to beat a simple duplex, which would be the equivalent of a zeiss #60

I believe in order to give you an educated response it would be helpful to know your hunting style and what you intend to use your setup for.

Would be used for mostly mule deer and black bear in CA, and then anything else I can get a tag for as a nonresident. It's definitely a lot of longer shots I'd say. I'd most likely never feel ethical about taking a shot past 400/500

I should add that I'd like to have 20x(ish) mag and 50mm objective lens. I think.

There are a plethora of scopes that would fit your bill near perfectly, and just like choosing a vehicle, I don't believe there is a "best". So much of it comes down to user preference. What I think may be the perfect optic likely may not be what you or somebody else thinks is the best for their purpose. Vortex, leupold, nightforce, zeiss, and many others offer optics that would be more than adequate for your purpose.

Do you want to be able to dial your scope to compensate for distance?
Do you want to use your reticle rather than dialing?
Do you want the option of being able to use both?
Bigger objective?
More magnification?
Tube size?
Weight considerations?
Overall size?

Some of the things that often boil down to what you as the shooter wants or prefers.

Lots of options to consider but something like leupold vx5hd 3-15x44 with some 20 moa tally 1 piece rings, like was mentioned before would fit the bill just fine.

Thank you for your help, I'll look around and see what some stores in my area have.
