I’m new to coyote hunting and am looking to get somewhat serious into it within the next year and I’m curious if being granted permission for private land tends to be easier than other big/small game? From the little experience I have, it seems easier, but maybe i just got lucky?

Depends on where you are at. I hunt the Dakotas mostly and can't remember really getting turned down many times and only usually because they have a trapper with previous permission.

I will say the excuses on why you can't hunt are pretty funny though. Normally for deer, upland, waterfowl it is always "I have family coming to hunt..." or "we have guys hunting it right now" as you drive by almost everday with zero hunters in sight. However, my buddy asked to call coyotes and a landowner literally told him no "because the coyotes eat all the deer and I don't like deer". Definitely a first...my buddy was so caught off guard he didn't even ask if he could come hunt his place for deer the next fall.
