Short whiny rant. Last month was set to go look at a wall tent that I was assured I had first dibs on once it was back from Davis for a zipper repair. After a few strange messages where it was evident the dude thought he was messaging someone else, he miraculously decided "we're going to keep it ".

Yesterday I had agreed to drive 4 hours to Craig to purchase another one. Dude messages me at midnight that his neighbor offered him $200 more than he was asking so he sold it to him.

Decency seems to be lacking for some people.

Astute observation. I have never stiffed anyone after agreeing on a price, but I have put the screws to people who low ball me. This came about after getting stood up countless times. My new line is “I will sell it to you for that if you can put the cash in my hand before someone else gives me a better offer.

Sounds like Facebook marketplace! Have only had one brush off here after deal was made and one scam. Local groups aren’t bad but regional marketplace is a shot in the dark!

One indisputable fact regarding people...we are a highly diverse species, capable of great good in character as well as total lack of character, selfishness, and great ugliness.

Another fact...none of us are perfect, we all make mistakes.

Some people do truly strive to do their best, admit errors without lying, blaming others or minimizing...but they appear to be the minority IMHO. I challenge myself to see the good in others, and when I encounter the bad, I try my best to wish them well and move on without wasting any of my energy in life.

That said...I am a "C" student in striving to do what I described above. I can quickly go to a variety of four-letter descriptors in my head (sometimes under my breath) of the person behaving poorly! My wife is so much better at it, and such a better person than me! LOL!!

Deals aren't done until the money and product have changed hands.

People haven't really changed for millinea, when they fail it shouldn't surprise us. But, they can certainly disappoint us when we have certain expectations.

Often, I find that my expectations are built off of my experiences and thinking others are going to mirror my expectations is where things become unreasonable.

It is a rare thing I appreciate, when I encounter folks who strive to do life in the same manner as I do.

I've only had one classified experience on Rokslide so far, but I bought a used Leupold GR spotter so it wasn't a cheap transaction. It was very positive, guy actually sent along a phone skope case and adapter that was supposed to cost extra.

I've had a whole bunch of transactions on Archery Talk. I've bought and sold several bows and other items that weren't cheap. All of those transactions were very positive.

I've had negative experiences when dealing with craigslist, Facebook marketplace and other avenues not involved in the hunting world. From my personal viewpoint, folks involved in hunting and shooting usually are pretty solid individuals.

Agreed. People suck. Hate that for you, bro.

All my dealings on Rokslide have been top notch as well.

Most people that I come across are decent humans. In my experience, the anonymity that the internet provides brings out the worst in people. This forum in particular seems to be a positive environment compared to a lot of other forums, though.
Amen to that.

That's how folks deal with everything - from the tent to hunting spots. It's pretty sad how far we've come.

That being said, I have run into some excellent people over the years and they give hope - folks who's word is like iron or chiseled into granite. Those ones you remember and say I wish everyone was like that.
