Peep sight on CVA Accura

Yea, I took a bull with that rear peep set up at 166 yards with a V2. It's on the 2013 elk meatpole thread. I thought the scope set up would make zeroing and making a holdover chart easier. I ran out of time in August so I just practiced with with the rear peep and stock front sight. I don't think I'll ever hunt ML with a scope even if I go down to NM. It doesn't matter since I still enjoy the stalk much more then the harvest, so the long shot isn't a real priority for me. What hooded front sight are you looking at?

Well, I haven't bought a rifle yet. I am leaning toward a knight, but I handled an Acura mountain rifle the other day and liked it. CVA told me it would not be tapped for sights, yet this one had one tapped hole for a front sight. I am not sure which sights would be appropriate. I would like a hood and a post or brass bead (1/16 is the smallet I have seen on Brownells). I have not ruled out a fiber optic as long as it is small as well.

I have read about some shim adjustment stuff for CVAs and don't quite understand if it is current problem or one that has been eliminated. I really don't want to fool with those sort of adjustments. I like the idea of a break action, but haven't the experience to compare to knights bolt design.

Suggestions welcome. Thanks

I don't know a thing about shimming a CVA. I just shoot the thing. I run a spit patch between every round and take my time between rounds. I'm only good for about 6 rounds before my shoulder wants to quit because I'm old and spindly.

Marley over on MM seems to be a huge proponent of Lee turret adjustable rear peep sights where you can dial in the yardage. He also has suggested just filing down a stock front sight to a point for long range shooting. You might look at some of his threads. I don't have the talent or desire to shoot the kind of yardage he is shooting so good luck with your endeavor.

I have one of these rear sights on my TC Pro Hunter. I really like the sight and put the adjustable rear aperture in it to use in various light conditions. I used this to shoot a great bull last fall at 214 yards after practicing regularly at 200, 225, and 250 yards last summer.

I'll try to post some pictures of groups I've shot using the site when I figure how to get the pictures off my iPad.

CodyB, would love to see your pics!

So, if I understand, that rear sight adapts to take variable apertures?

The Merit adjustable aperture can be fit onto the peep rib sight. I like it because the peep hole can be changed for different lighting conditions.

This is bull I was able to get this fall in Nevada at 214 yards using the rear peep sight being discussed and TC pro hunter. I shot it twice and both shots were about three inches apart right behind the shoulder.

Just to correct one thing, Marley on MM uses a Lyman 57 SME rear peep on a White muzzy which does have the adjustable turrets. Lyman peeps fit some guns but I'm not sure about the CVA's or TC's. They don't make one for Knights as I've emailed with them on that.
