I’ve got some spare Savage parts laying round, so I minds well build a rifle. Here’s what I’m looking for:

-Savage short action, top bolt release, centerfeed 4.4” spacing without bolt assembly, with or without accutrigger.
-stripped .223 bolt face
-.223 mag box and follower
-grooved barrel nut

I would also entertain a 6x45 barrel up to 20”. Also need some 6x45 dies.

Looking forward to seeing what the community comes up with.

Unfortunately I sold my dies and such when I sold the barrel.
6x45 is a sweet little round. You’ll want some Sierra 85 hpbt and H335 powder.
It’s been a bit eclipsed by the 6.5 and 6mm Grendel. But still loads of fun.

I’ve owned 4 bolt guns in 6x45. I still have one and my best friend has one. The Hornady 87 V-Max and IMR8208 are the best combination we have found.

What barrel length and twist rate were you both running with your suggested bullets and powders?

I prefer 20”. It’s the best balance of a short rifle without loosing velocity. Of course I run a suppressor on everything. One of the rifles I had was 24” and didn’t shoot any faster than my 20”. Right now I have a 22” and it’s the same as my old 20” as far as speed.

22" 9 twist as I recall, but if you want to run long heavy bullets you'll want 8 or so twist. Not much powder to push heavy bullets though.
8208xbr was a good powder as well.

The Black Hole Weaponry (BHW) chat board will have lots more info. There is a 6x45 section under the AR15 area. Also a bolt gun section.
