Recently bought an outdoorsman pistol grip and am planning to get either the Slik 634 or 624 CV tripod to put it on. My question is I'm assuming I need a female adapter (1/4 to 3/8) to marry the two together?

Any advice?

David, I had that grip on a velbon maxi m tripod and I just tapped the hole to the same size as the grip.

Slik sells the adapter you're looking for, unfortunately they come in a 5 pack. I have 4 if you want one for free.

On my Slik, I removed the stock stud, drilled/tapped the hole for the right sized bolt, and used an allen head bolt of the right length coming up from the bottom. It is stronger that way - and I like to diddle with my equipment.

Edit: it just occurred to me that with the Outdoorsmans head it might have to go the other way around, in which case ignore my comment above.

Drilling and tapping the hole is an option. The head has a 3/8" male connection, so I wouldn't need an extra bolt as you mentioned.

The drill/tap process is pretty easy if you are comfortable with it - just buy the right tap in terms of width and thread count. It will say on the package what drill bit size to use.

Anybody have any helpful tips for getting the screw out of the center column? I'm interested in tapping the hole to 3/8 for my outdoorsman head.

I was able to tap out the hole to 3/8 and mount my pistol grip. Haven't field tested to combo but it passed the living room test. :D
