Im looking for some recommendations on some quality bear guides in Ontario as i am from Michigan. As of now im leading towards Rick Dickson's Black Bear Hunts out of Wawa. This was recommended by my father in law as he has had great success there. Has anyone else ever used him? Any other recommendations?

I have hunted a couple times with Browns' Clearwater West Lodge, and killed a couple bears, they are good people and have really enjoyed the hunts

I hunted with woman river camp in Ontario close to red lake and had a wonderful time. We had great fishing, accommodation, hunting success and great size bears

myself and several buddies put down our deposit with Rick Dickson last weekend at the hunting expo in Gr . We have gone several other places in the past , but this will be our first time with Rick. We spoke with him for a while at the show
He has a good reputation and a lot of return customers.

Depends what kind of hunt your looking for, in a lodge or in a tent , meals included or cook for yourself Etc.

No we havent Honestly we have done a lot of research and looking around and I've never heard of them Not saying they are a bad place to go but the price, the number of baits, and the closeness of the baits would make me a little leery . Again not trying to steer you away from them , just my honest opinion Have you talked to them?

Again it really depends on what kind of hunt you are looking for Have you ever been on a black bear hunt? Are you going to be solo or with buddies? Do you want a more rustic hunt or a more comfortable hunt?

I have not hunted with them, but I know the owner of Gateway North Outfitters out of Emo, Ontario. I have zero doubts you’d have a great hunt with them. It would at least be worth giving them a call. They are good people.

I haven't been on a black bear hunt. I will be hunting with a buddy. Im fine with sleeping in a tent in a remote place. That doesn't bother me one bit. I would not be picky on my first hunt. If the average size bear comes in ill shoot it. Honestly the more i talk to ppl about Dickson's the more id rather go with them. I talked to my father in law yesterday and he told me a good friend of his, a very accomplished hunter, has hunted black bear all over up in Ontario and claims Dickson's is the best. He won't go anywhere else. If thats not convincing idk what is.

If you want to go on a great bear hunt for trophy black bears I would suggest going to Alberta and hunting with Ben Cockell of Northern Alberta Outfitters!

So here’s my experience with hunting bears in Ontario... I have been to 3 different camps and have taken bear by bow at all of them ranging from 225lbs to 425lb. I see on this thread that dicksons guide service continues to be mentioned. I’m sure they are good but they are definitely not the only good one in Ontario! I’m not sure what they’re price is but bear are like dogs in Ontario and you don’t need to be a master guide to put clients on a bear in Ontario! If you’re looking for a trophy bear your definitely looking in the wrong province. As mentioned above look at Manitoba or Alberta. Also be prepared to spend 2-3 times more money on that hunt. If your looking to just notch bear off the list Ontario is the place. If your looking for a big bear start applying in Wisconsin for a bear tag. Non resident takes about 7 years. Lots of 500lb bears killed every year. I suggest having a comfy camp on a bear hunt. Enjoy fishing during the day and hunt the afternoon. A nice cabin with heat and air with running hot water is easy to get on s bear hunt. This type of hunt should be close to 100% guaranteed and not cost more than $2800. Message me if you have any questions or concerns. Good luck

I hunted with rick Dickson about 10 years ago. It was a great hunt, my buddy and I both tagged out on day one and I think everyone else staying at our set of cabins did also. I just seen them at the mi show over the weekend and there prices aren’t much different now then they were 10 years ago. It’s a trip you could do for about 2k for your entire trip cost w a group of guys.
