Stay flexible. Elk are where you find them not necessarily where you want them to be.

This probably isn't as important for a first time elk hunt but, don't pass on an elk the first day (or other) that you would love to see on the last day of your hunt.

I was out messing around last weekend, and the herd bulls are already separated from the herd. If you want a herd bull, go deep and find the steepest nastiest hell hole you can find. You won't find much sign, because there will most likely only be one bull there.

My biggest weakness are not glassing enough, and also moving too quickly, take your time, move slow, glass a lot even in thick trees, and observe your surroundings. Sometimes places you think will never hold elk always do.

Be FOCUSED but FLEXIBLE! Have a plan set for each hunt each day, but be conscious that you may have to go on the fly depending on the situation.

The only thing more unpredictable than the wind,,, is elk.

Stay hydrated, and well fed.

Check your equipment each day! Things can some loose and get broken.
