After months of drooling at some of the projects and builds I have seen on here, I decided to buy an old metal sewing machine. I started playing around with it and realize that it sucked about as much as I did. The main issue was the horrendous foot control. I knew I needed more practice and so thanks to COVID reducing my business down to part-time income, I started looking for another part-time job.

I'm in my second week working at a marine canvas shop and am loving every second of it. The owner knows his stuff, is a great teacher, and also lets me do stuff more and more as he starts to see I am not a total screwball. I told him I wanted to work at his place because I want to learn how to make better and better outdoor gear for elk hunting etc. and I think the answer surprised him.

I am certainly geeking out being around the level of sewing machines that he has there (haven't got to use one of them yet though- he still doesn't trust me enough :) ). The pay isn't great, but considering most people have to pay to go to school to learn what I am, I think it is a great trade off. Elk season this fall is a no go, but hopefully by next season I'll be able to go bringing along some of my own gear inspired by some of you artisans out there.
