Hi

My wife and I have been looking to leave California for quite some time.

An opportunity for my wife to transfer and move up within the company has recently come up in the Bremerton area and we are very seriously looking at taking it.

I am a Plumbing contractor and may continue that up there or may also be a good time to not be self employed anymore...

So to the questions, I know there are elk in the area, are the areas of the Oly Peninsula that are general tags worth hunting for elk, looks like a lot of timber land, is access difficult. Deer does look pretty good in there though, numbers and success on blacktails look pretty good. Also would love to get back into fishing more, any thoughts on fishing, salt or freshwater.

Lastly, best areas to live. Would be looking for a couple acres of property and house, prices don’t seem all that bad. Have been looking online from port orchard up to Silverdale and Poulsbo. Any thoughts on areas to avoid. Seabeck and Belfair look affordable for places with property. How would the commute be from there to Bremerton each day.

Sorry for so many questions but I know someone here must live near and I trust your opinions!

Thanks in advance,
Dan

Living in Bremerton you are close to a lot of hunting and fishing oppurtunity. No shortage of people doing the same, but if you are good you will find your own spot and acres unmolested. Its hard to pull off but can be done. The OP is a wet brushy rain forest that holds a lot of deer and elk. There is other West side Wa options as well. The fishing management is favored to the tribes but decent fishing and crabbing can be found, being in Bremerton you are in close proximity to making a Canada trip which would be amazing. I would rate Wa several notches above California but several below Id or Montana. You flat be amazed at the masses of people you will see when you fish or hunt at a popular spot.

Thanks for the input.

ID and MT would still be my primary objective every year. Nice thing would being half the driving distance as I am now. Montana would be doable on a long weekend period from Washington, which is not even an option from Southern California.

Being so close to Canada and only 3 hour flight from Alaska is a huge plus as well! Prince of Wales has been looking pretty good.

Looking forward to more input, thanks!

I think you will have no issues staying busy as a licensed plumber with western washington being one of the quickest growing areas in the nation. The drive from Belfair to Bremerton will likely be around 30 minutes. We lived in Tahuya when I was stationed at Bangor years ago the drive was about 50 minutes back in those days. The city of Bremerton isn't necessarily the best area, if I was going to live close Silverdale would be a better choice. Belfair would also be a great choice, and would definitely be worth looking around the area. I haven't hunted much in that general area I know elk are a little more abundant further towards the coast, or up in the northern area of the penninsula.
