Old Bear Grizzly recurve , any info ???

I got this old bear recurve given to me . These are the only markings I can find on it ? String measures 58 inches from loop end to loop end but is old and needs replaced . Is this the right size ? . This thing is harder than hell to get strung as well . Anyone know the age ? Safe to shoot ? Ive YouTube’d for 20 minutes trying to get it strung and still struggling .

No - it looks factory to me .

I’ve got one similar to yours that was also gifted to me about 40 years ago. If you’re at all concerned, you might want to take it into a shop and get their opinion. You’re probably going to want a new string for it anyway.

Is it a recurve or longbow? Having a shelf on both sides does seem odd. Are you using a stringer, or trying to string it up by hand?

Recurve , two of us got it strung the other night and shot it . Trying to by hand . Positive shelf on both sides is factory

Cool bow based on the pictures I'd say it was made between 1956-1963.

Get a good flemish fast flight string made. Faster and with the double loops safer

I got one (Kodiak) from an antique shop in Idaho and let my local bow shop put a new flemish on it and bring it back to life after years being unstrung and sitting in a corner. It shoots fantastic.

Get a stringer for that older bow, step through could be trouble with a bow that old.
A little paste wax will make it shine like new.
