Nx8 for hunting?

What’s your take on the nx8 for hunting? I’m used to second focal plane so I’m not sure how an ffp would work. Especially at long range I feel like the reticle would obscure the target when you get towards the top of the magnification range. Any info would be great!

Here's an example on why I like FFP. I like to dial when the occasion permits, but last year I had a quick opportunity on a buck. I had a guesstimate on the range and knew what my drop chart had for that range. I didn't have to think twice on what power my scope was on. I used the holdover on the reticle and the rest was history. This was with the 2.5-20 NX8.

As far as long range, SFP scopes may have their reticle calculated for drop on the high
magnification end. Therefore the area covered wouldn't be any different than a FFP scope using same reticle.

I like the NX8. Is it perfect in all areas? No, but it checks a lot of boxes for me.

The 2.5-20 seems cool but I’m not sure I’d ever need 20x on the top end. I havnt used one so I can’t say for sure but I wonder about the usable range of that reticle if it’s full sized at 20x at what point is it too small to really use? 10x?

also, I believe the mounting space is fairly limited so you’ll want a rail to get it set up perfectly.

I tend to agree, the 20x seems a bit unnecessary to me and while I really like the low end of 2.5x is it even usable with how thin the reticle would be? I have heard rumblings of them possibly introducing a SFP NX8 and if they could offer it in a 1.5-12 or 2-16 and maybe a x42 objective to keep weight a little lower it could be a real winner with someone wanting to keep things light but also prioritizing dialing/reliablity. Which I believe is quite a few people especially on this forum.

I have one. At 2.5x it basically functions as a plex reticle. In the dark timber the illumination guarantees you can see it. For holdover, the MOAR reticle becomes usable at 6-8 power for me. Definitely need a rail to get the mounting right. I've been pleased with mine so far.

I agree with everything you said. I ended up just getting an nxs 2.5-10, seems to be nearly perfect for my uses so far.

I have an nx8 32 power model on my heavy weight gun. (10.5 lbs). The eye box is not forgiving at max power. Other then that I love it. I do like my nxs 2.5-10 sfp more for my true hunting rigs though.
