NV muzzy elk

I'm curious what others think of the NV muzzy elk season? I've heard both positive and negatives about the timing of this hunt and am a bit frustrated what to think of the Oct 22 date. I've thought of scouting a week early to possibly find a few bulls before they get pressure and are still possibly bugling. Feel free to PM me if you would like.

It can be tough. The bulls are pulling off the cows and trying to recover from the rut. Somtimes they hole up and are hard to find. Also they can move a ways because they are headed toward their winter range. Small bulls will still be with cows. It's hard to scout for them because they can move a long ways. It's hard to say if they will be in the same area from day to day, so if u find a bull try to kill him because he may be gone the next day. That being said I found 36 bulls on one mountain when scouting for a rifle hunt in the middle of muzzy season so you never know what your going to get.

There are some units with an earlier date, also the muzzy tags are fairly low numbers so the pressure isn't too bad, especially if you are willing to leave the road and hike in a couple miles. If you are just now thinking of it I assume you dont have any points yet? I would start putting in and that will give you ten or more years to think about the timing.

I actually have 16 bonus pts so have been thinking about this for a long time! A buddy of mine did a guided hunt during one of the early muzzy hunts this year in Sept and said it was an incredible experience. He said it would be super tough without horses because they were in such a remote area and the elk tended to move on a daily basis. With all my pts I have a little better chance of drawing a rifle tag in some of the better units. I guess it's a matter of putting in the time and boot leather irregardless of which tag is drawn!
