NV Antelope

I’m aware of HSTE hunts, my wife had a tag last season. The depredation part through me off as I’ve never heard of a dep HSTE hunt and I don’t see it in the regs you linked.
Sorry I see the hunt now you’re referring to. Calling it a dep tag through me off since the regs don’t use that word, like they do with the dep elk tags.

I drew a good unit once and even had local Intel, so my plan was similar to yours. I was feeling pretty good about it.

Every single water source had a blind on it when I arrived 3 days before the opener. Just something to keep in the back of your mind.

What unit did you draw if you don't mind me asking? I've been banking PTO at work. The season is only 2 weeks but currently thinking get out there ~4-5 days in advance, make a good plan, and then hunt the first week hard.

If you want big lopes look on the mountain
They were absolutely all over the mountain in NV when I last drew archery lope there and hardly anything in what I thought I knew as ‘antelope habitat’ down in the flats. Found similar situation on my UT archery lope hunt.

I will ‘head to the mountain’ pretty quickly this year in NV in the unit I drew this time if not seeing anything down low.

I had a sheep tag a couple years ago in NW NV and seen a lot of antelope. My only advice is not all
Antelope are in the lowland. There were a bunch high on the mountain around the springs and guzzlers. Best of luck and congrats on the tag.

What is the snake and cactus situation out there? Drew an archery buck tag about an hour southwest just across the interstate. Was planning to bring blind but do spot and stalk if possible. Used to doing sw wyoming and so usually high elevation where I rarely see snakes and scattered small prickly pear. Hopefully going to get a scouting run in because I drew 3 NV tags this year. Game warden said I need to go buy a lottery tickets and hit the slots!

You drew 3 NV tags as a non-resident?!?!?

There shouldn’t be many cactus, there’s really not much in northern Nevada. Snakes are around but not in huge numbers in my experience.

Yeah. My buddy lives in reno has not even drawn one. He was not happy until he realized I am completely good with him tagging along. Thanks for the feedback on the cactus. Means lightweight knee pads not the contractor grade ones!

That’s crazy! It’s hard to draw tags as a resident and I’ve never heard of a non resident drawing three. Congrats! What else did you get?

Muzzleloader mule deer buck in the 60's on the north central side up by idaho border. Archery elk on east central side by utah border ( cow ). It will be fun no matter what new country to explore. I just had not expected to draw this and montana at the same time.

Congrats dude. Have fun and good luck!! Maybe go buy a lotto ticket 🤣.

I drew the random tag last year for the units south of Winnemucca NV. I shot a buck on the second day and as I watched it out about 300 yds dying ready to drop a truck rolled up and shot it. So on to the next day. The area is really cool with antelope up in the mountains to the valley floors. I think i got a buck on day 3 after missing one just below a huge Silver Mine that was up in the mountains.

Opinion time from the experts ... Season is 8/22-9/7.

Initial plan was to get there on 8/19 or 8/20 and try to find one for opening day.

Someone I talked to suggested waiting until the first week of September because they're rutting better and new bucks may show up ... That's also Labor Day weekend hitting, so maybe more pressure.

How's the rut timing over those 2 weeks?

Most people will work the flats if you are in the hills you'll be fine. I always see a bunch on labor day weekend and just a few hunters in the mountains

Yeah, I've hunted those areas when I lived in Elko. I would concentrate on the higher elevation areas and wait a few days after opener as most people are finished in the first 3 days.
