Noticed that I could apply in December for the 2024/2025 hunts as a resident

Did things change, I am hopefully moving back to Alaska before July.

I remember the other two times I moved to Alaska; I couldn't apply as a resident until I had been in the state 12 consecutive months. So I move up in July, application is due in December. Even though I will be a resident in the fall hunting season I cannot apply for a resident tag.

But now it seems if I have a 2023 or 2024 non-resident hunting license and have an established domicile, I can apply for residents hunts in 2024/2025 although I will be a resident.

Wyoming doesn't allow such awesomeneness. I remember the last time I moved to Alaska I was buying non-resident tags for an entire 2 seasons.

I don’t think it was that way the other times I lived there.

First page of the draw hunt supplement has the following:

”Nonresidents who will become residents by the starting date of the hunt may apply for resident hunts; however, they must purchase a nonresident big game hunting license in order to apply for those hunts.”

Also moving back in July and I had this same question myself. Just hadn’t gotten around to researching it. Thank you for the heads up.
