Not Hunting (Grand Canyon backpack)

Fun read. How did the inov 8s fair might I ask?

I'm thinking they are going to become my summer ul backpacking footwear of choice.

Very well. The sole rubber is on the hard side so that wasn't an issue, and the mesh is pretty good.

Awesome story! Looks like a lot of planning had to take place for that to go as smoothly as it did. Those slot canyons are another world. Glad it didn't rain!

Awesome. The last picture in the series of the first two days is so cool looking. Everything is so dark and the stars look amazing. Thanks for posting this.

Thanks for sharing DaveC and Justin Davis. Very nice looking trip. I’ve been thinking on backpacking in the grand canyon. I just looked up Havasupai in a google search. It looks almost tropical there with that water color and the falls. Looks like an awesome place to see.

It's an awesome place to go with an easy hike in. I did it back in the 80's. Just an FYI, you will need to book your trip well in advance.

Dave,

Grand Canyon posts were outstanding as usual! Am waiting for your coffee table book from Taschen... Your photography continues to inspire and amaze.

Regarding the Bud Moore post: thought provoking. Being the research guru that you are (a compliment to all of your BPL and related posts) you should attempt to find "From Sea to shining Sea." It chronicles the RK Mellon Foundation's 14 year purchase of more than 1 million acres of US wild and wet lands for the sake of conservation. All of the properties were donated back to the various oversight DOI-related agencies (no tomatoes please!) with the stipulation that they never be developed and remain wild.

The project lasted 14 years if recollection serves. The total price tag was in excess of $400 million. While he is far to modest a gentleman to mention it, this project was the brainchild of Mr. Prosser Mellon. He personally visited the locations of which all 50 states are represented.

All said, this puts Mr. Mellon on the level of TR with respects to conservation;[ except he did it with private money/I]... a true steward of the land.

BTW, Mr. Mellon is a kindred spirit with us here at Rokslide.

Awesome. I would love to do a trip like yours some day. Did Havasupai last year, it was awesome but I wish we would have stayed a few days.

Awesome stuff Dave......really enjoyed the pics. Can't imagine how cool it must have been to see it in person.
