Nosler AccuBond or Partition for elk?

I've got a rifle hunt planned for this fall in CO and need to find some factory ammo that shoots well out of my gun. I've got months to find a round that shoots well out of my .308, but October will be here quick. I know that Nosler makes some great ammo, and they suggest AccuBond or Partition for elk. Which, in your opinion, would be better? The AccuBond does have a slight advantage with ft-lbs, FPS, and drop, but it's marginal at best. Which bullet do you think performs better on elk?

If you've got another suggestion, I'm all ears. It will be my first time chasing elk. I use Hornady SST on whitetail, but I know there are way better elk rounds out there.

Not going to go wrong with either. I would buy a box of each and see which your gun likes.
Also don't wait until the last min to buy that ammo sometimes in fall and winter everyone is sold out.
I personally shoot accubond 180 grn out of my 300 win mag. I'm not long rang shooter but it's more accurate than I am out to 500yrds (my limit)

X2 on try both and see what your rifle prefers. I've used both and they each do a great job.

Grab several different kinds. I was going through the same last year with a last minute rifle hunt and was going to take my Rem 700 5R in .308. Luckily I bought a few different brands because the Nosler performance in my rifle was terrible. We're talking 8" groups at 100 yards. I couldn't believe they could be that bad, so I had my buddy who was Marine Force Recon and Scout Sniper trained take a few shots and he saw the same thing. I ended up with Barnes Vor-TX, but your gun could like something completely different. Keep trying good hunting rounds until you find something that shoots well. Terminal performance doesn't matter if the ballistics suck. It's not that they are a bad bullet, my gun just didn't like the factory loads. I'm sure I could make the same bullet perform very well with custom loads, just not tooled up for it yet.

We have killed multiple elk with accubonds. All of them were 7mm. Some out of the 7mm Rem Mag with 160's and several with 140s out of the 7mm-08. I have only caught one bullet. It was from a "stem to stern" shot at long range with the 160. Perfect mushroom and dead bull. All of the 7mm-08 rounds have fully penetrated and exited. All cows, one huge cow, with the 140's in the 08. Your .308 will do awesome.

I was in your shoes last fall trying to decide which bullet to use for my Savage 308. I had great success with the Barnes 168 gr TTSX bullet. I was in some thick timber and only had a small window to shoot through and I hit the bull a little more forward than I would have liked but the bullet did its job. It went through the front shoulder blade, both lungs and exited the other side and the bull dropped in his tracks. I am extremely satisfied with the ttsx bullet and am loading it in my other calibers now too.

Try some factory ammo loaded with Sierra GameKings, I think they are either 164 gr or 168 gr. Only reason I'm throwing something else out there is when I was working up loads for my .308, my particular gun loved Sierra bullets, okay with Noslers, but flat out could not group anything Hornady makes. Don't know why, just the way it shook out. Also, from my research, it seems like most .308 rifles can accuratley shoot Sierra's

I honestly couldn't recommend Game Kings for elk. I've no personal experience with them ON elk, but every one I've shot deer & hogs with has completely come apart. I've so far managed a 100% jacket separation rate.

I'm in a similar position myself right now, although I'm reloading. Trying to decide between 2 bullets at the moment. The 150GMX at 2850fps or a 165 Partition at 2680. Both are shooting around a 1" group at 100

For my 308 I like 165 grain Interlocks for everything , but that don't matter much. Of the bullets your looking at pick what ever factory load shoots best in your with one of them. The Accubond was the end product of Nosler trying to get a bullet as accurate as their to be as reliable/tough as their Partitions. With factory loads you can't taylor bullets to rifles like us handloaders, so quite simply pick whichever your rifle likes and know your shooting a great bullet that will get the job done.

I shoot nothing but 165 gr. Accubonds or Partitions in my 30-06 and they both have performed perfectly on elk, deer, and antelope. Shoot the one your rifle likes the best In the 308 I think I would go with the 165 gr. bullet also. Decent velocity and good penetration could be expected.

Good luck!

my -06 did not like the 165gr partitions but I get great accuracy out of the Accubonds. No elk yet but I have taken 2 deer and one antelope.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm acquaintances with a few people that reload, so, I may be able to grab some bullets and see if they can help me load them up if the two Nosler rounds don't group well out of my rifle. I can't wait for October!
