What pants have some of you taken a liking to that aren't necessarily hunting specific pants? I'm interested in the c4e switchbacks but want to consider other options that are out there. My local REI is fairly small so I don't get to try out a wide variety of pants.

I have two seasons in the women's version of the Arcteryx gamma LT pants, and I liked them so much I picked up a second pair. Lightweight, stretchy and quick drying with lots of pockets. They pretty much replaced the cheaper nylon "fish pants" I was wearing previously, because I like the stretch to the fabric for hiking uphill.

I assume the men's version would be just as well made....

My first couple pairs of "stretchy" hunting pants (to quote Nacho Libre) were Arcteryx Gamma Lights that I began using in 2009. I got the recommendation for these pants off of a gear list made up by Bryan Martin (sheep outfitter). I would have to say, those pants rated as one of my best gear purchases ever. I loved them. The first hunt I used them on was my sheep hunt in Wyoming. My only complaint was some small rips after some very hard use. I layered them with a MontBell insulating pant when it got really cold.

The last two years I have used Kuiu Attack Pants. They are now my favorites. Just a bit more robust than the Gamma Lights.

P.S. Looks like Becca and I were writing a good review on the Gamma Lights at the same time.

If the Kryptek Vahalla's don't make it in time, my Columbia Arubas will be going with my this year to the Brooks Range and not my Kuiu Attacks.

Best hiking pants I've used for the money. Tried and true over years of use. :D

I dig the Marmot Scree pants. Only issue I have is that I'm a pocket freak...so the sole hip pocket doesn't quite cut it for me on any long trips. You can pick em up on sale for about $60. Been looking to try a pair of the Marmot durango's, just havent bit the bullet yet. For an even lighter-weight, warmer weather option I mostly like my prana zion stretch pants. Only issue is they ride a little weird on me and I get some serious chaffage if I try to hike around for very long in them. Maybe your grundle is designed to like them a little better than mine. Can be had for $50 on sale at REI or on Amazon. I do have some OR pants, don't know the style name but they are cut way to slim for my liking. Luke might like em, I know I've seen evidence of him in some skinny jeans on another post here before.

Check out the TRU SPEC pants. They have ones that are based on military BDU / ACU, but with better pockets, knee pad holders etc. They run between $40-$70. I hunt a lot down in the oaks out here in California and really find them good at not picking up burs etc. They also dry out pretty fast if you sweat a lot due to the poly / cotton blend. Just a suggestion.

Westcomb Recon - they make good gear. Started up from the ashes of Arcteryx when they left Vancouver for China.

REI branded soft shell pants (black) have served me well for hunting and other mountain adventures.

Luke,
What do you like about the Arubas over the Attack pants? Other than the price? Are the Arubas durable (unlike some real light weight fishing/summer style pants)?

If the Kryptek Vahalla's don't make it in time, my Columbia Arubas will be going with my this year to the Brooks Range and not my Kuiu Attacks.

Decided on the Kuhl Liberators. I tried them on and couldn't leave without em. Extremely comfortable and great pockets and fit. I'll have more to tell after this weekend. Opening day A zone w/ 90 degree forecast....here we come.
