Yes, Ford should reimburse you for Food, Lodging and rental car as well.....Make sure you keep your receipts...Maybe see if hotel person might know of any locals you can get a ride from to and from.

Man. I hate that's happening! I was in Alamosa last weekend and would have gladly helped. I hate vehicles! Hope you're able to get it solved and out hunting ASAP

I rented one back in June in Bozeman. Dang thing would turn off every time I stopped. NO way I'd buy one.
Hope you get it worked out.

Not that it will do much good now, but you can buy code readers that plug into the diag port, then WiFi to your smartphone. Then just purchase an app that coincides with your particular vehicle. It will let you see and erase codes.

I bought one for my truck for the last trip I made out west. Wanted to keep an eye on transmission temps and it was the cheapest way. Worked great.

My truck had a little over 200k and I was very fearful of something happening. I just kept telling the guys with me, I don’t care what happens, as long as we make it to camp.

As we started hitting all the mountains I quickly learned my front rotors were warped. It shook almost uncontrollably when I tried using the brakes, so I had to downshift the auto trans to keep speeds in check. It worked, but boy did it make the rpms sing.

Pulled over after a hours worth of white knuckle driving and as I started to take off I head some ‘ping’ noises coming from under the truck. After a while thinking and talking about it, we decided it was a universal joint. So we got the parts and changed it on the mountain the next day(I always try to bring as much tools with me for such things).

After the hunt, on the way home, trans kept over heating. I’d pull over and let it cool, then take back off. Somewhere in Kansas, after midnight, we decided to pull over for the night. I came to a stop, then when I went to take off I heard some loud popping noises and the truck didn’t move so well. Next time we pulled over, into the motel, I stopped and the truck wouldn’t go in any gear. We had to push it to a spot.

We ended up dumping the trans fluid, replacing the filter, in the parking lot the next day. Drove relatively fine on the way home. I finally decided I better take a look a few months later, and when I opened the trans up I found out what happened. I had spun a thrust bearing in the mountains on the way out. The ‘ping’ sound was little needle bearings being knocked around in the trans.

I was blown away we made it as far as we did and thankful. So yea, sometimes a hunt starts bad, but then turns out great. I killed my first bull that trip.

Shitty! Keep us updated tomorrow..

I got a flat on my truck last week on the elk hunt. We were 25 miles up an old logging road. When I got back home (14 hour drive) the flat ended up turning into 4 new tires!
