Man if this were 12ga id be on it
Completely understand! I sold my "Turkey" 12 gauge and bought this for turkey. Got home and my wife had one sitting on our bed as our anniversary present lol. I mean the same exact gun. I got hooked on the 20 gauge for turkey after shooting a friends with TSS and man it's awesome. Anyhow, I appreciate you looking and commenting. It's nice to have honest people on the ole Rokslide! Thanks brother and God Bless

They are great guns, ive heard good things about the tss shells as well! Looking to hunt waterfowl as well as turkey and predators so figure better stick to 12gauge.

Great gun. I have the exact same gun. I think with today’s loads 20. Does it all, I never use my 12 anymore. 3 inch 1 steels for geese. 3s for big ducks. A joy to carry and handle compared the 12. Just me 2 cents but if I only had one shotgun, this is it.

Couldn’t have said it better! So much easier to handle and carry than the 12 and with the loads today it’s great!

What loads are yall using that perform well? Or just any standard box of lead, steel, etc work all the same?

For clays and dove I currently use whatever the cheapest 7, 8, or 9 shot lead 12g shells I can find and they work fine for that.

Ive used lead 5shot for turkey and no problems there either; if the 20ga equivalents of each of these seem to have the same capability I would heavily consider going with a 20 gauge

7 1/2 Federal game load 7/8 oz for dove and Federal Game Load Heavy 6 shot 1 oz for pheasant. But most any will do

Turkey I use Hevi 18 3” TSS #9 with a .585 Pinhoti choke and its lights out at 50 yards. Could stretch it even further if I need to. Lots of good TSS loads out there though. Expensive but straight up killers.

10 to 20 years ago, the idea of using a 20 gauge for turkey hunting at 40–50 yards would’ve raised a lot of eyebrows—and rightfully so. But with today’s advancements in ammunition and optics, it’s now one of the most effective and popular setups for turkey hunters and waterfowl hunters alike. The 20 gauge has long been a solid choice for upland game and migratory birds, but taking down a turkey at extended ranges is a whole different challenge.

While the tried-and-true 12 gauge with 3” or even 3.5” shells loaded with #4–#6 shot still has its place on turkey, watefowl, etc. more and more hunters are choosing to carry a 20 gauge and trusting its performance. When paired with TSS (Tungsten Super Shot), the right choke for your specific shotgun (since even identical models can pattern differently), and maybe a red dot sight if that’s your style—you’ve got yourself a stone-cold turkey killer. I’ve seen this combo reach out to 65–70 yards with impressive consistency and patterning.

And it doesn’t stop there—28 gauges and even .410s are proving themselves in the field when matched with the proper load, choke, and optics.

So, if you’re ever in the market for a do-it-all shotgun that’s even comfortable for younger/recoil sensitive shooters, I’d recommend doing your own research and consider the 20 gauge. It might surprise you. Feel free to reach out if you’d like some data or insights based on what I’ve personally tested and use.

Thanks!
