Looking to sell a brand new in the box Athlon Ares 4.5-27x50 (gen2) with APRS5 FFP IR MIL reticle. Also comes with the sunshade. Selling because I ended up going with a vortex razor instead. I have one of these (2.5-15x50) on my 7 mag and it tracks great. Asking $550 TYD Paypal FF or + fees (conus)

I’m looking to get a good scope for Mammoth and other sniper challenges. I was considering this scope or the vortex razor gen3… It will be going on a Christensen arms mpr if that matters. Can you give me some input on this and why you went with the razor?

Hello fholdurg. I don't have any experience with the gen 3 Razor, only with the gen 2. Here's what I found with both scopes. The Athlon's price point is really nice for the features. It has decent glass, scope clicks are decent, better than average I would say, but not as good as the Razor. The Reticle in the gen 2 Athlon is better than the gen 1 reticle. Overall, I liked the Athlon . I have the 2.5-15 on my hunting rifle and it has done everything I need to do.
The Razor had better spacing between clicks which makes it easier to feel them. The turrets on both are good but the Razor turrets are a little lower profile and larger diameter, which I like. The Razor had better glass and was easier to get behind at higher magnification. The reticles on both scopes seemed to be good and usable to me, so that was a tie in my mind. I have run tracking tests on my 2.5-15x50 Athlon and the Razor and both track good all the way to 9 mils then are off one click at 10 mills. The Athlon needed one less click at 10 mils, and the Razor needed one more click at 10 mils. I ended up going with the Gen 2 razor because I got a good deal on it, and I liked it better than the Athlon.
