I'll be going on my first elk hunt this September. I'm looking to get new arrows for whitetail (so I'm open to all arrow selections). What kind of adjustments should be made? Broadheads? Grain? Stabilizer? Sights? I'm open to any and all suggestions and would love to have my DXT dialed in for both Whitetail or Elk scenarios. Do folks make adjustments from hunt-to-hunt or do they try to set their bows for both?

What is your current arrow set up?

That is the only thing I could see changing, everything else will make no difference from deer to elk. I think most guys find the arrow set up (broadhead weight, spine, length,) that their bow shoots the best and leave it alone.

I'd have to check, but they are Carbon Express and I know they are on the lighter side. I'm thinking of moving to a medium-heavy arrow, something around 550 grains (550 finished with a 100 grain fixed broadhead).

100 grain broad head will be just fine for elk. Very common weight. You wont have a problem killing an elk with your current set up as long as its accurate. I would be more concerned with learning to call and getting ready to pack.

Broadhead weight isn't that important as long as your arrows are flying straight and accurate.

Overall I'd try and shoot a heavier arrow than you may for whitetail. More quiet and will penetrate better

The only change that I made was switching to a heavier arrow and better broadhead. I'm running black eagle rampage with 50 grain outsert and 100 grain iron will.

It's not so much what you hit them with, it's where you hit them. Shoot your most accurate setup. Don't fret over what your arrow weighs. If you take an ethical shot, penetration will not be an issue.

Coming from Iowa for my first ek hunt last year, definitely should have focused on getting in shape and shooting from extremely uneven terrain! Being able to shoot farther distances could also help. So I suggest you get a setup that’s accurate and then get after the practice and training!!
