I have recently just became interested in Tikka's because of the excitement they seem to generate here and other forums, that and I have been singularly focused on trad archery. Therefore I don't really know much about them other than one action size and relatively easy cartridge conversion. I have a Varmint .223 coming that I hope to shoot 77 TMK for the short term and possibly having rechambered in .223AI. The reading I've done indicated that mag length will prevent loading that bullet as very long, but my question is what about a standard length Tikka mag, does the bolt stop prevent that from working? I'm sure I'll have more questions.

The 204/223 Tikka mags have a max OAL of 2.300 +/- a couple thou. so if you have it rechambered to something else, like 223AI, you'll want to talk to the gunsmith doing the chambering about what bullet/s you intend to shoot so they can use the appropriate length freebore.

Also, just a FYI, if you do rechamber the factory 223 barrel to 223AI it'll need to be set back a bit before it's rechambered to 223AI.

I have a 223AI with a 22in Hart 9tw that absolutely loves the Hornady 53gr Vmax.

Do you mean using like a 308 magazine to get longer length? I'd assume the lips are too wide for the skinny 223 cases.

I have Waters Rifleman 223 mags that allow something like 2.6" in factory tikka bottom metal and no bolt stop mod needed. They are from Australia and expensive though.

The short answer is no. standard length mag (i.e. 308 case size) wont work. Mountain tactical made a longer 223 mag, but i think they are discontinued. Even if you find them, or a longer mag it just add unnecessary hassle. Stick to "mag length" 223 or go up to 22 creed if you want more V is my advice.
