I have been on one backpacking hunt in Colorado. I used an Outdoorsmans backpack and wasn't overly impressed. I recently purchased the Kifaru Stryker system as I mainly will day hunt and take short trips hunting for deer and turkey in Oklahoma. Is the stryker bag with a gear bag going to be sufficient for a week long hunt or do I need to buy a separate bag for that kind of trip?

Seeing as you have a frame already and if your a light packer why not add a 44 mag that is on special at the moment (not sure how long the special will run for).....your above suggestion would probably work, but with the 44 mag you would have all your bases covered.

For a week for me personally I would want a Fulcrum/Crater I think. I bought a 44 to use how your running your stryker.

Do you still have the outdoorsman ? is it the palisade 90 ? what didnt you like ? ..........I think thats the pack my son would like to run one day.

It really depends on the rest of your set up. If you're running a UL tarp/bivy/quilt I think you'd be fine. If you have a lot of heavy/bulky gear it might be tight. Also consider whether you really need to be leaving the truck and not returning for a full week. Might make sense to pack for 2-4 days in the woods and plan to be back at the truck at least once during the week.

I don’t have the Outdoorsmans pack anymore. But it was the optics hunter. Just didn’t really care for the frame as it seemed to squeak a lot. Overall it was a good pack but just a little overkill for most of the shorter trips I’ve done. I finally decided to go with the Kifaru frame and Stryker pack since it can be customized for longer or shorter trips as needed.
I run a Kifaru tarp for my shelter and don’t have a bunch of bulky gear. But caching at the truck may not be a terrible idea.

You can do 5+ days no problem with stryker plus a camp bag . I would probably advise against a camp bag however and get a large lightweight dry bag. I really like the zpacks airline bag for this. I can pack all of my gear plus food for me and my 7yr old son for 7 days in it. I used it on a bikini frame with a grabbit and straps.

the airline bag is almost the exact same size as my old highcamp 7000

Couple things to think about..

If you're new to backpacking chances are you don't have your gear dialed and you may still be taking much more needed stuff and or heavy/bulky items.. This will consume pack space really fast..

Also, the Stryker is gonna be tight to get gear and a week worths of food, you need to allow room for animal/meat if you are successful on the hunt..

Although I don't have a Stryker (yet) I feel you may need more bag for a week long hunt, unless you have your gear dialed, if thats the case disregard this post lol

You don't NEED another expensive bag, unless you WANT one. Get an OR 55L or a Cuben/Dyneema equivalent in the size you desire for considerably less. Once you've done that, you can add a lid if you find you need a little more space or some organization. That with the Stryker is an awesome combo for multi-day hunts. It depends on your style? I've been doing it with an E&E mounted to a Duplex for years, and I will do it with a Stryker this year.
