I probably would have been content to hunt with my old tikka 270 till I died, but I made the mistake of opening certain threads on Rokslide that cost me a bunch of money. I ended up buying a 24 inch 9 twist threaded Xcaliber barrel, ab a10 suppressor, xlr element chassis, gunwerks 2.0 elevate bipod and an SWFA 3-15. I was really hoping to find an accurate load with a 115 gr Berger bullet. I followed their recommendation of loading the bullet .01, .04, .08, and .12 inches off the lands. The new barrel didn’t seem to be too picky with any seating depth and 49 grains of H4350. It was a big relief to see this should be a good hunting rifle and I feel lucky after my first trip to the range. It seems like my vertical spread was bigger than left right, so that might be shooter error.

This will be a fun one for sure, keep us posted if you try anything else in it. But seems like you got a good things going right off the start.

I just got my AB A-10 and put 60 rounds of 308 in it the first day. For the money I was really happy with it.

I am new to suppressors and am glad I made the switch. So much more fun to shoot!

Same I have limited personal experience, been around them. Only other one I own so far is the polo K on my 223 and I shoot the piss out of that it’s great.

Look forward to seeing how this rigs works out for you. 25-06 is one I’d like to have.

The day I got my first silencer I went to the range with the only threaded rifle I had. After just a few shots I realized I was in for an expensive time.

I net home that day and started packing up rifles to get sent out for threading and within a week I had 2 more silencers on the way. Now I have like 6 of them and won’t shoot without them.

It is cool to see somebody modernizing a 25-06. I don’t have a 25-06 but my favorite rifle is an 18” 30-06 with a silencer.

Great choice! I love the .25-06. I shot out the barrel on my first .25-06, so I got a new 26” barrel for it with a 1:8 twist. I am looking forward to launching lawn darts with it.

I should have gotten the new barrel threaded when I ordered it, but I let my dad convince me not to do that. Our ancestors hunted with rifles with 30” barrels, so I am planning to get it threaded and use the OG with it. If my math is correct, it will weigh in at 10.9 pounds. With the old barrel and the archaic B&L scope and mount, it weighed 10.8 pounds before. So, the balance point will be a bit further forward, but the rifle has always been a dream to shoot offhand or prone because it has a short LOP (only 12” - the previous owner was a little guy).

How does it balance in hand having that suppressor off the 24” and that configuration?
It actually feels pretty good. The balance point feels like it is near the middle of the arca rail on the chassis, which will be nice for shooting off a tripod. I don’t take a lot of off hand shots so I think it will work out fine.

It is heavy. I think I will spring for the magnesium chassis with the carbon butt stock when I set up my 223 trainer. Then I can have a light gun to hunt with when the kids aren’t using it.
