pretty big brand here, all made in NZ which is pretty rare these days.
I dont have much of their stuff.
They seem to lack in some technological advancements with some areas(all base and mid layers are just fleece) which some people like or dislike.
There main difference is durability with most gear and simple basic designs that work. My god mate has a Tahr anorak thats 8 years old(he wears it ALOT) and its more water proof than 1 year old KUIU.
They make very good quite rain gear for bush hunting

That's something I haven't spent much money on is good rain gear, luckily I haven't yet needed it either but I'm sure it's coming.
Finding anything quite in rain gear seems to be a challenge so it's worth it for me to check them out and they're cheaper than Sitka. Sitka is what all my outer layers are. But if this thing is better and I can get it cheaper I'm in

will be quieter for sure.
Quite rain gear has pros and cons, will always be heavier and always slower to dry out.
Depends what you need.
But for quite rain gear Id say Swazi is the best.
Alot of North Canada/alaska guides seem to wear it for moose/horse hunts etc

Bump.... Anyone try this piece yet, "the rifleman"? Just curious.

Have seen a review in magazines here. as always the review is good(never read a bad review in a magazine yet funny that....). Have looked at this jacket a couple of times in the store. I honestly think its too light/thin.

Like the Kuiu Ultra rain gear.

Would be good for an emergency jacket in your bag, but I doubt it would last very long if you actually used it hunting. Depends on where you hunt I suppose.

I have bought a new Tahr Anorack this year and have been disappointed. Hood is terrible for me and breathibility sucks! like really bad. last time I wore it was Mid winter here, snowing and I had one base on and had to stop walking because I was over heating. Was walking on the flat. Would not buy again.

still searching for a rain jacket!

Wow that's interesting... Only bad review I have seen on the Tahr. Is the rifleman of a typical hard, LOUD material, or brushed like the Tahr but just thinner?

Heard back from Swazi themselves... They suggested the rifleman not be used in thick areas as well.

Its a hard shell material. Davey made/used this design for running the 'coast to coast'. a multisport race over the southern alps. Thats what its made for, not hunting(originally). I think the same of the Kuiu Ultra, it would be great for lets say a road cyclist or a trail runner. Would not last long in a back country hunt.

Swazi has abit of a cult following here, and in some people in Europe.
I think when it came out it was very good for the time, the originals were Gore Tex, but now they use Aegies Fabrics. Not at all the same as Gore Tex. Waterproof rating of 10,000mm and they would not give me a breathability rating.
Depends how you hunt, for alot of hunting in Europe and bush hunting here it is a great jacket, quite, warm and seems waterproof, for low activity breath-ability is not an issue.

For the mountains the soft face holds water and is slow drying, heavy jacket, no way to vent/breathe. These are things that make a big difference on a back pack hunt
