I'm looking at a scope for my new build. I'm in no hurry as the rifle won't be done til after summer. It'll be a hunting/long range steel scope. I want FFP and matching reticle and turrets. I really like the bushy ERS and razor because I love the reticles but hate the weights of them. I'm leaning towards another mark 4 with M5 turrets. Or maybe the mark 6 3-18 but at almost 2k I'm not sure it's that much better then the mark 4. Am I over looking anything? I welcome all opinions. Thanks

I would like FFP. this would be my first FFP but I've used my brothers a lot this past summer and have really come to like it.

Chad44,

I really like Vortex reticles and they have quality FFP options.

SWFA SS have excellent FFP scopes available for reasonable prices. Many consider the 3-9, 3-15 and 5-20 the best values available in FFP scopes. The SWFA diamond reticle is loved by some, and not by others. The scopes also have excellent durability and tracking reputations.

No problem, I have owned a few and shot many and they just don't work for me on my hunting/long range rigs. So others will give better advice in the FFP's than I will. Good luck finding what you want. Good optics will make any rifle easier to love.

I can't make up my mind on that diamond reticle. I wish it was just hash marks like the TMR. I have read a lot of awesome reviews on the swfa thoough. Would you rank it better then a mark 4? I have never looked thru one and it hard to buy one when I can't get my hands on it before. my favorite reticle is the bushnell G2DMR. OR THE VORTEX EBR. Thanks for the input so far

I would put the SS 5-20 over the Mark 4. I do prefer hash reticles though.

I would take the Razor first out of this bunch.

Sounds like you've done some homework already and I think you're on the right path. Everybody has their favorite brand and there has never been as many good options on the market as there is right now. The most important thing is a quality scope with MATCHING reticle and adjustments. Mil's make more sense but if you are used to MOA knobs then make sure your reticle matches.

Last summer I sold almost every scope I owned, which was mostly Leupold Mark 4's, in order to save up for a scope with matching reticle and knobs in lighter more compact package. I just bought a Leupold mark 6 3-18x44mm because it tips the scales at 22oz and measures 12". .1 mil adjustments, TMR reticle, FFP.

I think the Bushnell HDMR is also a great scope for just a little less money, but its 9 or 10 oz. heavier, and probably has a better reticle then the TMR.

Right now is a great time to buy a used optic cause all of the manufacturer's unveiled their latest and greatest at the SHOT show and there are a ton of guys selling their stuff to get the newest thing out there.

John, how is the HDMR glass compared to the mark 4? I love that reticle the best of all the scopes but worry about the weight and glass. Have yet to look thru one. My first choice on paper is what you bought (mark6) but haven't held that either.
