Hi everyone, looking for some advice!
I'm building a new rifle setup (a Tikka T3 7mmMag), and am going to put a new scope on it as part of the process. I shoot comfortably out to ~400yds in the field. More than that, I would rather get closer, or it would need to be really ideal conditions. I don't like needing to do a big manual holdover on a live target.
I'm trying to decide between a Steiner GS3 3-15x50, and a Vortex VIPER HS 4-16X50 LR.
I have a pair of Steiner Predator binos which I really like, which influences my opinion, but I know Vortex also seems to be pretty universally loved.
So, the pros/cons I can see...
Steiner- Know I like their stuff, quality, can proform (so price is same as Vortex), but, slightly heavier, less known in the US (aftermarket support), likely not as easy to warranty, capped turrets
Vortex- Their stuff seems to be universally loved, easy warranty, aftermarket support ( I like the idea of a Kenton custom turret), or I can just learn the MOA turret, but, less expensive means its somehow not as quality?
I'm a bit OCD, and so I would love to have my scope be the same brand as my binos. I also like to be "unique", and with so many people running around with Vortex glass, the Steiner's also stand out for that reason. I also suspect the Steiner's might be a bit better optically?
Basically, I'm trying to figure out if I should follow my heart and go with the Steiner's because its what I want, or go with my brain because it says the Vortex will be plenty quality for me, I can run the custom turret or use the MOA elevation turret to easily adjust for distance rather than a manual hold over, and its a more popular option leading to better service/resale down the road.
Do the optics of the Steiner overrule the logic of the Vortex, price being irrelevant in this case?
