New Orleans inshore charter rec early may

I will be in New Orleans for a conference during the first week of may and hoping to spend a day doing some inshore fishing. Never fished in the south and don’t have high expectations, would love to catch a few redfish or whatever else might be a new species for me. Anybody have charter/captain recommendations? Going to be near the French quarter so proximity to that area would be a plus!

Close to New Orleans is the Barataria/Lafitte(Pronounced La-Feet)/Shell Beach/Delacroix area. If you are close on time, that's the area the you can get to close to the City. Capt Charlie Thomasson's Bayou Charters is in shell beach. Personally have fished with them and they catch. LaFitte I have fished with Theophile Bourgeois's operation. He died in a float plane crash and his son is running the operation now. They received extensive hurricane damage and not sure if they are up and running. There are hundreds of charter operations down there. Biggest thing is get to checking and calling now for availability. They start booking up fast. One thing to note, you will be $600-$900 if its just you or 3-4 people. Feel free to reach out to me for any rec's or if you get a list together of people you have contacted who are open and have questions. I have fished down there my whole life both on my own and several guided trips through business. I usually fish on the other side of the river between Venice and Cocodrie, which is a little piece from the city, so I don't know as many guides in that area closer to the city.

I fished with Big Dog Fishing Charters in January of 2020. We came back with a 3 person limit of reds and threw another half dozen back. The boat was nice, captain Alden was friendly and helpful, and I would absolutely use them again. Not sure how the hurricane impacted them, but if they’re up and running I’d give them a call.

This was for a February trip, but the advice holds true I’m sure.
