My brother and I drew Unit 15 Muzzleloader Tags for October 25-29 in the nonresident unguided pool. Since the draw we have been e scouting the unit and making plans for a DIY hunt. There is a ton of public and I think its a hunt that would be totally doable DIY especially if we scout the week prior to the season. I have killed a couple of bulls in the past, but this would be my brothers first elk hunt. He is starting to wonder if we should look into hiring an outfitter. Does anyone have any recommendations on outfitters that are reliable and hunt hard. Not sure we would definitely use one, but thinking about exploring our options.

Thanks in advance.

Reach out to Jerry Corliss at Corliss Outfitting. My buddy and I drew unit 15 second archery tags for this September. He's very familiar with the unit. I drew a unit 15 muzzy tag in '20 and I killed a nice bull with him. He also applies and killed bulls himself in that unit. Prices are very reasonable too

I can recommend Armstrong Outdoor Adventures. They're based out of Quemado. My son and I hunted with them a few years ago and had a great hunt. Top notch people. They had access to a large amount of private land and their lodge sits right in Gila, south of Quemado. Jeremy Armstrong is the guy who I think runs most of the guided trips at this point.

No reason to hire a guide in this unit. Especially if you do your scouting. Lots of roads and logging roads make it easy for access. Lots of atv traffic. If you feel
Like you need to hire a guide then go for it.

Another one for New Mexico Professional Big Game Outfitters. Its been a few years since I hunted with them but they were great to hunt with.

If you want a really big bull then book a good outfitter, if you just want to whack a bull, the immature bulls will still be screaming then.

Brian Curtis at Territory Outfitters. I’ve never used him but I met him hunting a late rifle tag in AZ last year and he’s a stand up guy and him and his guys kill some big bulls.

I’d hit up my uncle
David Mathews Outfitters
We hunt 15 every year

If you been out yourself and have been successful it wouldn’t be the worse to go out with him and show him the ropes. This would also be a great bonding experience only having each other to rely on. 15 is a great unit with a lot of opportunities.
