I am from Greenville-did not think I would see anyone near me on rokslide. I am no expert but I have taken an elk and 2 antelope in Wyoming and done some amazing fly fishing. Let me know if I can offer any assistance.

Maybe some Elk will move down from NC and we can get them on our home turf. I live in Blue Ridge and hunt some up near the watershed. The gear discussed here is better suited to what I like to do than most hunting forums. As soon as cash allows I will head out west for a nice long multi-species hunt. My goal for next year is a bear here locally.
It is difficult to find hunters in our area that are mobile-many simply drive an atv or utv to their stand and hunt. I am not saying it is a bad thing to hunt from a stand -been there and done that-but I prefer ground hunting and seeing different real estate. I actually tried to do a bit of research today on the Jocasee Gorges. There are a few bears roaming there along with some wild hogs and grouse even. I've hiked a small portion of it and would love to try my hand at hunting there
It is never too early to plan a western hunt. You might want to look at preference points if you have an idea where you will go. I have 7 pref points in Wy for elk and deer and might try for one or both next year. Also saving coin is not a bad idea as it can spendy real quick.
I assume it is OK to mention another site since rokslide has a good relationship with them. Kifaru.net has plenty of guys that can provide good info as well
I'm in the same boat, just recently found this site. I'm in Charlotte and I'm dead set on heading to CO next year for 2nd rifle. I'm selling some crap I don't need, buying some more my wife says I don't need but I will. Glad to see there's others in the area. This will be my first excursion out there so I'm writing down as much as I can and plotting my adventure.
