Ohhhh, I gotcha, you wanted a warranty... it had nothing to do with the actual feasibility of the repair then. I was thinking there was some quirk with the engine that would have caused it be trashed or not able to be replaced. How much was just the chain, etc. replacement if you recall?
just under $4000 for the kit and labor, $12,000 for new engine

The reason I didn't go with the smaller motor is the maintenance. The dealer told me that the turbo was very finicky for very clean oil (far shorter oil change intervals) in the Eco-boosts. I opted for the 5.0.
7500 miles in the 3.5. What's the 5.0?

And fwiw dealer told me that it was suggested to keep it at 3k for the 3.5. Because of the turbos. Just relaying what I was told so dont start correcting and bashing my reply.

FWIW, I almost never listen to the dealer on their recommended service intervals unless they've got a real good explanation. I always go by what is published in the maintenance schedule from the manufacturer. Simple fact of the matter is that the dealer makes money on shorter service intervals and service that isn't necessary. Some are much worse than others in terms of what they try and up-sell you on. I do spring for 100% synthetic in turbo engines though.

I really want a new F150, loved my 2011 3.5 Ecoboost. Unfortunately, looks like I can't get the 2.7 in a Crew Cab 4x4 with the 6.5' bed. Maybe that'll change by the time I'm ready to get rid of the current Jeep.

For whatever it's worth the company I work for has a large service department to maintain its fleet of vehicles. Many of our mechanics are former Ford mechanics. most of them recommend increased service intervals more than the dealer recommended for the turbo trucks especially if you're towing. Said they basically never saw turbo problems if people were aggressive with maintenance.

He said it's night and day, but which one is which? Did he think the Ford towed better or the Chevy towed better in the Mountains?
The ecoboost will suffer much less HP loss at high altitude than a N/A gas engine. Turbos reduce the loss of power thats due to less oxygen in the air at altitude.

I pulled a trailer through the mountains with my 3.5 this summer and we crossed over monarch mountain in Colorado and it did great.

I have a 15' 3.5 eco and the engine is great. Feels like twice the engine of my previous 5.3l chevy. I average 15-17 city and 18-24 highway. Towing is fantastic but the more you use the turbos the more you suck the fuel. Towing a 19' boat my mileage will drop to as low as 9mpg when going 80mph on hilly terrain. 45,000 miles and no problems with the engine. My next truck will probably be the 2022 tundra when they release their twin-turbo V6.
