Need a good location for book

I am writing a book where a tough as nails old man takes his "just met" daughter's fiance out on a hunting trip to get to know one another. But I need a location (in the U.S.) that is so reputedly challenging and dangerous that it is unthinkable to take a newbie there. Thought about the Badlands of Montana but is there a place that hunters would consider more extreme without going high into the mountains of AK? The storyline leaves the reader wondering if the father is planning to off this young guy and make it look like an accident...thus the need for a LEVEL 10 hunting location. Someplace loaded with risks...pit vipers, brown bears, extreme weather changes, severely steep country..that kind of thing. Wanna place that will film well when I sell the rights to a movie studio. LOL

I haven't been able to imagine a better location (that regular people and hunters will recognize) than the Badlands. Is there one? Don't wanna do the southern swamp thing.

Haha do you have a son-in-law that you want to get rid of in real life?

For the general public it doesn't need to be that extreme. I have cidiot friends that think I am endangering my life to bears, snakes, and coyotes by going off trail in PA forests. But from Glacier on down to the Frank Church there is a fair share of rough and scenic country.

Hardcore hunters know there is nowhere that inherently deadly in the lower 48. Although I have no desire to explore the Southeastern US swamps, they are probably the most dangerous.

Atchafalaya basin. Not exactly the visual you are looking for but plenty of gators and nasty snakes. It is also quite cost effective to film in Louisiana due to their tax incentive program. Swamps trump mountains for sinister any day.

absaroka beartooth wilderness. The badlands are definatly not hard core in my opinion. You need steep cliffy remote terrain, grizzlys, wolves, mountain lions.

-Thorofare wilderness in northwest Wyoming. This is one if not the most remote place in the lower 48. Deep in there your 30 miles in any direction from a road. This place is rugged as **** and loaded with grizzly's.

I like the plot. Leaves open some serious twists in acts two or three.

You'd probably just need to make up an area to meet all of your requirements. Hollywood and authors do it all the time and nobody can film in wilderness areas so that shouldn't be a limiting factor. Especially since they'd end up filming in BC or New Zealand anyways. Although using an existing area, and being accurate would boost sales locally.

In Wa you could go with the Pasayten Wilderness. Not so we'll known that you could easily embellish the ruggedness. You could even add in wolves. And drug runners and border patrol. City boy marrying into a Winthrop ranching family would also fit the narrative nicely.

Good Luck!

Edit to add....

Also make for an excellent excuse to spend a week in Winthrop and a week hiking the Pasayten. Great way to spend a couple of weeks and there are some epic, long hikes in the Pasayten with great fishing. Winthrop is an old western town that films great.

Just to clarify, I am seeking a very legit, recognized hardcore hunting region so even Roksliders go "Oh man, that area is serious!"

The badlands of ND can be pretty steep and remote. Only thing you really have to worry about though is rattlesnakes and mountain lions. The fire ants can be a real bitch too ;)

Absaroka-Beartooth, Thorofare, the Bob would be my top 3. I have yet to go into the Absaroka's without seeing a handful of griz roaming around.
